YEOW! This is one nasty cut!

On wednesday I messed my finger up pretty good. I cut it with a next generation kabar and got 6 stitches in my right index finger.

i wanna see pics of the cut lol.. i use a spec bump too.. what do you sharpen it with?

P.S. my thumbprints are actually scarred up because of knife testing and whatnot.. got i think... 7? different scars from knife accidents.. only 2 from myself... and im only 16. Im dreading seeing what ill be like at 50.

Ill try and take a couple pis tonight. The edge was factory as i had just taken the knife out of the box. I'd have to say it was the sharpest factory edge from kershaw I've ever seen, it was close to that of a good spyderco edge.

sounds like a pretty good bite. i hope it heals up quickly

i have cut myself more times than i can count, but mostly it was my fault because i threw caution to the wind or i left my common sense in my other pants pocket.

the other day i almost cut my thumb open because i was splitting the very end of a small sapling to make a quick arrow, and being the genius that i am, i slipped and cut right down to my thumb. lucky i wasn't pushing too hard or i might have gone all the way through the skin. as it is, i just made a light mark 4 mm below the nail.

the pads of my fingers are torn up from working with wire.....and from doing stupid things with knives when i was younger.

So about 2 hours ago I was at work checking out a new Spec Bump that we got in for stock. I flipped er' open and wiggled the blade side to side to check for blade play. I then decided to see how good the stud lock was as far as vertical blade play. Sonofa! The lock had disengaged sending the recurve right into my index finger. I put the knife down to inspect the damage and it didn't look all bad, just a shallow cut along the side of my finger. All of a sudden a 3/4 inch long gash opened up right above the first cut and I was looking at bone and tissue... Kinda cool actually, its not everyday you get to see a clean cut through every layer of skin and then some. I'm still kinda pissed that the knife disengaged, idunno why it didn't lock up. I'll tell you one thing though, judging from the number the recurve did on my finger the Spec Bump should be one serious cutter.

i feel your pain. almost took the tip of my thumb off with a kitchen knife.....not that fun. wasnt as sharp as the keshaw, thankfully. (if it was bye bye tip)

well what you didn't feel anyway

You might wanna send that knive back... they should replace it free of charge, but call first... perhaps the lock just didint fully engage?

and now i understand your feelings aobut the bump!!! the knives would fail to lock up 100% of the time when i first got mine. after the initial stiffness of the stud lock wears down though this did not happen to me. but i only own two bumps so that probably doesn't mean much

I just got mine today and it has locked up every time so far. Actually, it has been a little hesitant to unlock several times. I thought mine was going to have a frame lock as well as the stud lock, but I was mistaken. Is there a model number differentiation for that?

Unlocking too. The Frame locks never went into mass production i don't think...

i made a knick in my finger cleaning my 156 with a wet nap, tip sliced upside down clear through the nap and nicked a 1mm deep slice through the bottom of my finger.

I know I've played with one that had both. Maybe it was a liner lock instead of a frame lock, but the same redundant set up none the less. It was one of the black aluminum handled ones.

I've done this too. One must have move the cleaning cloth away at all times, it can't ever be a motion parallel to the blade.

?? i've never seen of one of those. I'd like one! Did it look like this? (minus shiny clip)

Well, this is not what I meant when I said 'this thread is useless without pics, show'em if ya got'em!'

But, I guess it'll have to do. When did the Spec Bump come out with an uncoated blade?

Oh! I see. I haven't spent a lot of time checking out the new knife stuff. I've been concentrating on the firearms fixation and kinda scratching that itch. :D

I pop in here once in awhile, but, usually not for long. Today's been an exception. I've been poking around here and I see there is a lotta stuff I'm unfamiliar with, like, Scrapyard Knives(huh?). Guess I should spend more time here to catch up rather making the hit and run posts. :)

never heard of an aluminum handled spec bump.. well unless thomasw or someone else can clarify it will be a mystery

I want to see the bone in the picture...that would be neat to see as long as it wasn't my bone I could view it without passing out.
