So about 2 hours ago I was at work checking out a new Spec Bump that we got in for stock. I flipped er' open and wiggled the blade side to side to check for blade play. I then decided to see how good the stud lock was as far as vertical blade play. Sonofa! The lock had disengaged sending the recurve right into my index finger. I put the knife down to inspect the damage and it didn't look all bad, just a shallow cut along the side of my finger. All of a sudden a 3/4 inch long gash opened up right above the first cut and I was looking at bone and tissue... Kinda cool actually, its not everyday you get to see a clean cut through every layer of skin and then some. I'm still kinda pissed that the knife disengaged, idunno why it didn't lock up. I'll tell you one thing though, judging from the number the recurve did on my finger the Spec Bump should be one serious cutter.

Super glue and duct tape are your best friends =)
and now i understand your feelings aobut the bump!!! the knives would fail to lock up 100% of the time when i first got mine. after the initial stiffness of the stud lock wears down though this did not happen to me. but i only own two bumps so that probably doesn't mean much
I just got mine today and it has locked up every time so far. Actually, it has been a little hesitant to unlock several times. I thought mine was going to have a frame lock as well as the stud lock, but I was mistaken. Is there a model number differentiation for that?
Unlocking too. The Frame locks never went into mass production i don't think...
i made a knick in my finger cleaning my 156 with a wet nap, tip sliced upside down clear through the nap and nicked a 1mm deep slice through the bottom of my finger.
I know I've played with one that had both. Maybe it was a liner lock instead of a frame lock, but the same redundant set up none the less. It was one of the black aluminum handled ones.
Well, this is not what I meant when I said 'this thread is useless without pics, show'em if ya got'em!'
But, I guess it'll have to do. When did the Spec Bump come out with an uncoated blade?
The handle looks correct, but if I remember correctly it had the dark coating on the blade.?? i've never seen of one of those. I'd like one!Did it look like this? (minus shiny clip)
