Yer basic package opener!

I just got a Victorinox Floral Knife, which is just a single, simple 15° chisel ground sheepsfoot with a 4-finger / full grip handle.

Awesome piece and dirt cheap! Get a couple!

Probably the blades I use the most - for the mundane task of opening packages, envelopes, boxes.

I had been using the little CRKT Folts Minimalist Wharncliffe at our incoming package counter. I loved the blade shape so much that I stepped up to a bit beefier Wharncliffe - the Cold Steel Tuff Lite.

The Tuff Lite handle had some sharp edges which I beveled slightly with some sand paper. The lock spring on it is incredibly strong - it could be a good bit weaker for easier operation, but at least there is NO chance of that blade ever closing inadvertently from your hand pressure on the handle, no matter how tightly you grip the knife.

There is an alternate to disassembling the knife to slightly loosen a Tri-ad Lock knife; you could leave the blade half-open overnight. I don’t own a Tuff-Lite, but I do have a Code 4 whose lock was initially too tight, and I left it half-open overnight for a couple of nights, and it loosened up enough to make unlocking easier.

One of my favorite mail and package-opening knives is the small blade on my Victorinox Executive SAK. Or the small blade on my Spartan SAK.

Spyderco Ladybug 3 fully serrated. Plastic clam shells and card board seem to pair well with a serrated blade. Plus I get experience sharpening the serrations. I hand sharpen and I don't own any other serrated blades. I normally wouldn't carry a knife this small. I have big hands and prefer a bigger handle to grip.

I used a serrated spyderco ladybug salt to open the Victorinox Floral knife which was sandwiched cardboard and plastic clamshell.

Great, sharp tip for getting through plastic.

I have a Tuff Lite and opening packages is a good use for it. Mine also has a rather strong spring which tends to make me choose something else a lot of the time.

More than anything, A Vic SAK tends to get the nod for package opening because I always have one in my pocket.

I use laminated blades in the Spectrum Energetics Utilizer. The Plastic Surgeon is good for blister packs. When the thing slips off the package, a spring loaded cap covers the the pokey bit.View attachment 1236553

I don't know how I feel about this one but I just saw it in a retailer's newsletter. Here is the Tops Poker:

Whatever knife I have in my pocket?

Yesterday (last package received) I used a faux "cold war" era Bundeswehr German Army "Swiss Army Knife".
(this particular model Bundeswehr "Swiss Army Knife" has been out of production since the 1990's.)

No blades for my Stanley Box opener. I need to get more ... "some day" ...
