Yes, another lockup question

Big Red - your Sebenza is wayout of our lock up spec of 50 - 75%. Since you say it is also really stiff, and by looking at the difference in the gaps on either side of the blade, our guess it that it has been dis-assembled and then re-assembled incorrectly.

Please send it in to us so we can correct the problem and ensure a smooth, safe knife for you.

Thanks
Anne

Thank you Anne. I'd like to give it another week or so before deciding to send it in. The lockup improved greatly over the weekend. It is 40% or better at the moment. Also, I just checked that the blade swings freely when the lock is disengaged (as mentioned earlier in the thread by a member) - and it seems to be very smooth and not tight in the least bit. I believe it's just the pressure from the lock bar being relatively tight versus any of my other knives.

A couple further questions - did you get the knife brand new or was it second hand. If brand new, who did you get it from?

Thanks
Anne

May be a bit off topic, but for future reference, let's all try to remember the 50-75% standard.

Also, that Anne Reeve rocks.

Purchased new on 1/24/2010 from KnivesShipFree.com. Born on date was July 30, 2008. A year and half old stock it appears. Small Sebenza 21 Micarta inlay.

Not the best picture.. but here is the lockup now, improved over when I first received. I believe it will be just fine.

Anne, just a really dumb or obvious question about terminology - by 50-75%, you mean lockbar travel across the blade tang, correct? So, between 50% and 25% of the blade tang clear of the lockbar? The knife shown in post #1 in this thread is out of spec because too little of the blade tang is engaged by the lockbar, as I understand it.

Apologies for the question. Thank you!

That actually looks pretty good now, most of the small sebs I've
owned were around 50% new ..

I wouldn't bother sending it in, it will probably soak in a tad more
with use breaking in. You may have had a washer riding off the bushing earlier.

Correct, lockbar over % of blade tang..
