Yet another misinformed Youtube knife video

What's the current status on knife reviews. Do people really still watch a lot of these? I've never been able to sit through but one or two, and only if really looking for something in particular. Just stumbled across some and was reminded of why... The average knife review handles so many things that I find completely uninteresting "Knife B flips with more authority, but Knife A is a smoother flipper... The jimping on knife A is too rough when I'm watching TV flipping it repeatedly..." Or they go to the opposite spectrum. From knife jewelry, knicknack fondling, to this knife must destroy 2x4s and pry nails from a tree...

The saddest part about this video isn't what he said, it's the comments. Go through them, most of the people believe him verbatim.

The problem with YouTube...is they let anyone on YouTube.

About the only ones I watch any more are from ApostleP. They're long but very well done from my perspective.

I'll look up ApostleP. The one guy I *sometimes* find myself able to watch is Cliff Stamp. I know, that's probably heresy here. But he really does just present so many factual details about actual cutting performance, ergonomics, grinds, etc... that it's hard to ignore it. He also does a bunch of stuff I don't like, though.

And for those of you making fun of NutNfancy, you should be assumed of yourselves. I myself like NutNfance, I just cant stand listening to him for more than five minutes. His dog is cool.

You haven't even gotten through the intro to a NutNFancy video at five minutes in.

People I subscribe to on Youtube:

jankerson1
Chamdar17
CMFTWknives
Gavko Knives
virtuovice

and some manufacturers.
Only time I'm really looking at knife reviews these days is if I have my eye on a particular knife and just want to see a few mins of footage of it.
But I'm not really listening to the words.

^ Exactly. I just use it as a visual experience. Most reviewers piss me off so I just mute the videos.

And yes, compared to some of the morons posting reviews on YouTube, Nutn seems like a genius....

You have to give this guy credit, he clearly has a lot of enthusiasm. But, his knife video is full of factual errors. Lets take a look at his video and see who many we can catch.

Let me get us started.

1) at 2:24, he points to a U.S. 1917 trench knife and talks about its stiletto or dagger blade. The 1917 actually had an edgeless triangular cross section blade.

n2s

I think he was more or less just pointing out the type of design it had.

On one of his recent videos, he comes off a little crazy because him and a friend are doing this "tactical simulation" projector shooting thing at the local pistol range and Nutn shoots the person in every single scenario. lol
I dunno, I think if I hung out with him in real life, I'd be sick of him after about 45 mins. He just seems like "that guy".

but ya know what, he puts a ton of effort and time into his YouTube channel and like it or not, it's super popular and it's successful.
He's doing his thing.

No worse than any given Nutnfancy video!

I don't know. Nutnfancy can manage at least some rudimentary fact checking. I don't get his jimping fetish and don't agree with the way he sees most pocket knives as weapons and the way he rambles on in his videos about things not related to the knife he's reviewing tends to just amount to verbal masturbation but at least he gets most of the facts right.

Assumed? Assumed of what? Sorry, but I don't get assumed of much.

I will very rarely listen to about 30 seconds of Nutn's videos. I used to watch him more but at some point I decided that his videos were way, way, way too long. And later decided that he is slightly stupid.

"whhhup-issssshhhhhh! Check out that jimping bro!" :P

What's this? A smooth spine? Useless and terrible!

With crudely Dremeled jimping it's now much improved for sheepdog P.O.U.s! Perfect!

There are far too many of these videos on youtube, filled with bad information stated in a matter of fact way. When these get made and posted by folks that don't really know better and then are watched by folks that don't really know better you get a virtual mess. I still have no idea what in the blue heck "bugging out" means, it sounds like a very hyper paranoid mentality that seems to revolve around zombies, apocalypse type scenario. Clearly a topic for another thread on another forum entirely. ;)

I watched 2 minutes in 30 second intervals throughout the video randomly. This is what I consider very gross misinformation. The lower the number the easier it is to sharpen? So then, 1095 is going to be dull forever when we compare it to 440 or 3V or even S90V. Riiiight. He likes to say "Conversely" a lot.

I guess the thinking goes something like, "Hey if this random guy from South Jordan Utah can 'become famous' and 'make a buncha money' from doing gear reviews on YouTube, WHY CAN'T I?!?!"
>_>

Haha, yeah hes more moronic than I remember......

Oh and RevDevil, not to derail the thread, but "bugging out" is in reference to a military term used to describe quickly getting out of a bad situation. Like, "crap! here come the North Koreans! Im bugging out" People always love to throw it around today as meaning "Im going to leave town during a SHTF scenaro and go to my bunker (bugging out)" There ya go:D;)

Yeah, I knew the origin of the term, but when a few civilians mention it in certain contexts (like these videos) it is an absolute head scratcher. Running away in some scenarios won't do much good I'd expect.
