Yet another progress thread

Time to go for a ride........ ;) Just something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man...

Given the news out here in Washington about a man and a horse... I'd be real careful what I wrote!:o  LOL!!!!

that being said, while I'm not overly fond of that big of a blade or S-guards... your work has definitely changed my mind!! :D And a lot of it has to do with your in progress threads - by knowing what you are doing, I can truly appreciate what you are making! Simply outstanding!!!!

Well....I aint from Washington....and down here in Texas ....we RIDE our horses good and proper...with a saddle...and spurs.... :-)

Seriously, I am glad you all enjoyed the treads. I appreciate the compliments, and as much as I enjoy my work, it's icing on the cake.

That's a knock-out beauty Bailey. Hard to believe Stephen doesn't hail from San Antonio, given his Texas-taste in bowies! You've made something really special here...

Frank, while Stephen is from the other side of the pond, he is definitely "Texas sized" :)

A gentle giant if you will

Here is a Texas-sized trio from Blade: left to right, Peter Gill, Steve Dunn MS and Stephen Foster, bowie-hog :p . These guys made me feel very wimpy.

Sorry Stephen, I couldn't resist. :o

Enough with the ugly pictures .......... the Black and Gold C Guard arrived safe and sound. It is simply stunning, my first but certainly not my last piece by Bailey is a gem.

The fittings have a wonderful deep finish and the french greyed and inlayed engraving is wonderful. It is a slim and elegant piece (unlike its new owner :D), distinguished and precise, just how I like them.

Stephen, that is just an amazing acquisition, amazing work by Bailey and wow you captured the inlay so nicely with that photo work.

How about some additional pics when you find the time, and oh, desktop wallpaper size would be soooo good...

Miss September will have to be booted from the wallpaper, the real beauty has arrived LOL. That's a looker. You got "da goods", man...

Stephen,

How about showing us your sketch for the design of this piece so we can see the very beginning concept as well as the fabulous end product?

This project started with a drawing I sent to Bailey which was based and inspired by his work. I wanted to combine some of my favourite aspects from pieces I had seen into one. The design specifics were as follows:

- Extended S Guard or C guard as I call it.
- Multifaceted handle and collar.
- Ricasso Wrap.
- Finger groove.
- French Greyed and inlayed engraving.
- Black Fittings - a first for Bailey but inspireed by his blueing. I love Black and Gold!
- Bell type blade profile.

This is the original concept:

Whenever I send a sketch to a maker it is purely to start the conversation going, rather like a menu, we then talk around changes and mods. Following discussions with Bailey it was agreed that there would be the following mods:

- Fewer facets
- curves and drops added to the guard and handle.
- Blade profile given more of a drop.

The embellishments and finishing on the ricasso, pommel where left to Baileys creative talents!

I really enjoy this aspect of custom knives, being able to work with a maker on something specific and unique is what its all about for me!

Stephen

Stephen, an amazing picture of an equally amazing bowie!

I have to say once again, Bailey is so talented, and his prices are so reasonable, I don't think you can get a better value in high end forged work.
