Yet another suggestion....small Starmate

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I love my Starmate. Unfortunately, most of the people that I have to deal with each day are a bit afraid of it if I need to use it. I would love to see a slightly smaller version of this knife (about the size of a Benchmade Mini Stryker....nice size but I won't buy a BM). I know that Spyderco has plenty of design ideas and gets force fed suggestions like mine everyday, but I just though I would mention it, so that in the future it MIGHT become reality.

I share your views completely. I get quite a few comments whenever I use the Starmate in public. And I don't consider it to be big either. I'd like to see a smaller brother for the Starmate. But like you say, this forum is inundated with calls for new models.

It is a tough decision to decide what models to move forward with when you can only produce so much in your facility. One new model most likely will mean the demise of another. We can't have em all - though I want them all plus my own ideas too.

I know I guess for now, I'll just have to look forward to the small Militaries when they come out. I just wanted to see if anyone else would like the idea.

Yeah, a lot of us would like to see little brothers for several models, but I think that most of these desires will be awhile in coming about. One of the cool things about this company is tho, they actually seem to enjoy having a large variety of models(god knows WE loveit). Still, we have to be patient and focus on only a few, and a few of the more popular movers as well.

Hi Chad!
In my opinion the starmate has the right size. But if there was a smaller model I'll sur have to get one.

hold on guys, look at all the other small to medium sized folders that Spyderco produce. They cannot just keep making smaller versions of every knife they make. Why don't you choose a medium folder with the same blade profile. Wouldn't that make more sense than to wait years for a little brother to be produce? Isn't it more logical? Just something to ponder about.

But there aren`t any small Terzoula designs with 440v. If there was, I`d have it in my pocket right now. Doesn`t hurt to ask!

SteveB, have you looked at the BF Native? I some ways, the blade design is similar to the StarMate and the hilt is very ergonomic, similar to my StarMate.

AncientSUL has a point. We all get a kick out of new knives, but everything we imagine can't be produced. Although a Mini-Starmate would be nice, such a knife wouldn't be able to do anything that a currently available Spyderco doesn't do already. To the guy who started this thread, I'm trying to knock you down. I'm just giving some perspective.

In michigan, the concealed carry length for a knife is 3 inches. So I'm always interested in smaller knives. Love to see a small military. Would definitely purchase one.

I guess I was thinking of the Starmate because I think a smaller version of this design would make a very useful knife, not that the full size isn't. As for the midsize knives that Spyderco does make, I think I own them all, so I'm not ruling them out. I would like to see a mid sized knife with 440V though. I know that the BF Native is a very nice piece, but I really don't care for the Native design and I care for the color blue even less.....kinda rules that one out.

Basically, I wasn't trying to stir up any trouble......just wanted to see if anyone else was hoping this might come up in future plans.

I had the same problem with the public frowning on my Endura. I also use it at work, where peoples' opinions actually count for something! My solution was to get the Walker Lightweight. That knife is about as small as a one-hander can be and still offer a good grip and adequate blade length. Fraction of the price of a Starmate, too.
Good luck.

Bob "T" gave the go ahead on Saturday for a smaller Starmate. It will be a while before production is possible, but R&D will begin a design. We'll keep you posted.

Spyderco is some company! Within a week of the request, we now have another knife to lust after. Sal, you should cite this on the post about how the internet has affected your business.

THANK YOU!

Hi All.
Now I know how to find what my next project is, just look at the forums.
This will be a fine knife.
How small should we make it?
Maybe we should ask Bob T.
Thanks for the input.
Vince.
