But, remember, I was talking about function and reliability for an affordable price. Sure, there are a hundred, two hundred knives prettier than this one, but I think that few would get the job done any better. A well forged knife , well shaped linen micarta handle and a top of the line tactical sheath is hard to beat at the price. Pretty? Nah.

"i've handled the patton, and as much as i like the blade, the ergognomics of its carbon fiber scales are horrible."

That's the problem with any knife, let alone one that costs five hundred bucks. It looks like it would fit like a glove. I'd love to be able to go by their place in Solvang. So, do they have a showroom where you can handle some of these beauties?

"ichor, have you ever handled a model 2 brend? holler back @ me when you have, i'm sure you'll report a drop in your funds of approximately $1300.00 ;)

heh.."

No I haven't. If I send my address and postage with insurance, will you send it to me? I'll send it right back, promise.

:D

There are a lot of nice knives pictured in this thread. (can you hear the "however" coming?...)

One of the things you get when you spend a pile of $$ on a (now overpriced as of year 2000) Brend Model 2 is the fantastically fitted, finished, radiused guard... in steel also, not just G10 or micarta. Is this necessary for proper function of a combat knife? Ah, no, not really. Is it a great piece of craftsmanship that the educated eye will appreciate? Absolutely.

And the super nicely ground blade of course.

Here's a pic of a Model 2 in 6.5" blade that allows you to see the radiused guard to some degree. Realize it isn't just radiused in the same plane with the blade, but flares out to the sides a bit also. Super. Have to handle to appreciate.

Ok, lemme try the pic again:

As a side bar: Dave Broadwell can do a great "Brend" imitation when he wants to. Problem is getting him to "want to". But Dave is kinda in a league of his own. Siska comes to mind also.

ichor - i'll "temporary trade" my brend with your ENTIRE hossom collection :D

rdangerer - it's true. the fit & finish of the guard is just plain SICK! downright mesmerizing. i like how the direction of the satin polishing on the guard is consistent with the polishing direction on the rest of the knife. just nutty.. nice pic btw.
