After carrying my Yojimbo 2 and using it a lot, I'd really like to see a carbon fiber, S90V sprint run.
Who's with me?

:D

Damn you had me excited that maybe you'd heard about one or something. Yes I'm pretty sure everyone and their mom would be down for anything with CF and s90v lol

Well, I wouldn't buy one. Being that my Yo 2 is an SD knife, it's just around the price point that I'm comfortable with carrying with the possibility of getting to use it for the social purpose and getting it confiscated or having to ditch it.

Eh, as much as I like S90V and CF, I'd have to give this one a pass. Given the ultra-specialized design of the Yo 2 as a SD knife, I think there are other Spyderco platforms that would allow one to get more out of the materials, particularly the S90V blade steel.

Wasn't part of the point of redesigning the Yojimbo to make it less ultra-specialized, something you'd keep on you all the time, even over your "cutting knife", because it functions well in that role also?

...not that the Yo isn't geared towards SD more than other knives Spyderco offers (and so you're right that another model might benefit from the upgrades more--how I'd love a Caly 3.5 in CF and S90v), but that's not nearly its entire purpose. If it was, why waste money putting even S30v in it? Throw any bargain basement steel that will get very sharp, and who cares how long it will hold that edge because it's not like you're going to be hacking through villains for hours on end with it

I'm guessing S30v because it would still be around the $100 mark.

This was totally what I was thinking... I could only wish this would happen..

That was actually the first thing I thought when I saw the prototype pictures months ago. :cheerful: I'm definitely with you! It just seems so fitting.

Sal, Please make a CF Yojimbo 2 with S90V or any other "supersteel," please.

You're right about the changes that were made between the Yo 1 and 2, so my characterization of the Yo 2 as "ultra-specialized" -- specifically the "ultra" part -- was probably a bit uncharitable. The point in bold in your post is what I was getting at: I can think of a dozen or so other Spyderco models that have blade shapes/grinds that IMHO would allow them to benefit from the S90V upgrade more than the Yo 2 would.

And since I'm sure someone is going to ask me to name a dozen Spyderco models that would be good for the S90V treatment, here they are off the top of my head and in no particular order: Endura, Delica, Stretch, Caly 3.5, Perrin PPT, Manix 2 XL, Chokwe, Gayle Bradley, Native 5, Sage, Police, Superleaf. And that's not counting the bread-and-butter models that have already had S90V sprints (Military, Para 2, Manix 2). (Obviously, for many of those it's not likely to happen for one reason or another: base model that's not popular enough to support a sprint, the Japanese manufacturers of the Endura, Delica, Stretch, etc. not being willing to use non-Japanese steels, and so forth.)

I don't think I want a carbon fibre handle. Spyderco can make those a wee bit slippery.
Spyderco makes carbon fiber scales with a pretty wide range of looks and texures. Peel ply CF -- the stuff used on the S90V Military, Para 2, and Manix 2 sprints, as well as the recent M390 Military sprint -- would offer excellent grip.

The carbon fiber on my Para 2 in S90V is not slippery. It's the S90V/Carbon Fiber combo that every nice, American made Spyderco deserves to get. It's like it's the right of passage to more sprints. I've used my Yojimbo 2 for all kinds of EDC tasks. It's sweet.

I'd rather see the Caly3.5 get this treatment. How awesome would that be? And yes, I know it's a Japanese make so it won't happen.

I'd rather see them make some yojimbo 2's in any steel. Where are they? I mean other than at inflated prices on feebay.

Dear God people, it is a Wharncliffe blade, the same as utility knives.
How much more suited to EDC and utility tasks can you get than a utility knife blade shape?

I don't think of it as the bee's knee for defensive use anyway. If I get one (which is certainly the plan) it will be totally bought as an EDC knife.

And carbon fiber is kinda cool...almost as cool as titanium.;)

So is Spyderco caught up enough on the Yojimbo 2 that we can start dreaming about sprints? :D

I carried my new 0561 for a few days but my Brown Para 2 hasn't seen any pocket time yet because the Yo 2 is back. It's gotta be deserving of some sprints. Who's with me?
