Just purchased a Yojimbo 2 on 10/17/14, received on 10/22/14. Sent it back to Spyderco on 10/31/14 to fix compression lock issue. When attempting to close knife, it was catching on something, making it very hard to disengage the compression lock to close knife. Has anyone else run into this issues with their Yojimbo 2 knife?

I paid for shipping back to Spyderco and per my tracking information, it arrived back at Spyderco on 11/3/14. Per my conversation with Customer Service, they are looking at a minimum 3 week turn around time right now.

I recieved my Paramilitary 2 on 10/30/14, and the action on this knife is perfect. Hope to have the Yojimbo 2 either fixed or replaced soon. First time working with Spyderco Warrenty department. Keeping fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly. Not very confident in Spyderco QC process.

I believe you just had a sticky lock. It's fairly common with compression locks, frame locks, liner locks, etc. Both my Paramilitary 2s started this way. You can either break it in, turn the stop pin a quarter turn, or put some graphite on the lock face in order to fix this. I'm not really sure how Spyderco will fix the problem, as the only permanent fix is to just use the knife and break it in. So, if you get the knife back, and the lock still sticks, don't blame Spyderco, or the knife, just use the knife for a little while. I hope Spyderco is able to fix the problem, so keep us updated! Best of luck! :)

My Yo2 is a smooth as my PM2.

How many other Spyderco's have you had with QC issues? Because one knife with an issue is not indicative of all of their knives

My only complaint is that the spydie hole is not as easily accessible on the yojimbo2 as other models. But the ergo are phenomenal.

I must agree with this statement. The trademark Spyder hole is just not in the correct spot, hidden a little bit by the scales.

Thanks for the advise, but if I receive the Yo2 back from Spyderco and it still sticks then I will be selling the knife. There are way to many knives out there that I want to spend my hard earned money on that work flawlessly when New.

Again, in my OP, this is my first experience with QC issues with Spyderco. I asked if other Yo2 owners had any issues to find out if there was an issue with this batch of production knives from Spyderco. If there is not, then Great, because I have already spent my hard earned money on it and I want to be able to say "My Yo2 is a smooth as my PM2".

Thanks for the reply, I am sure the issue will be resolved and I will update this post when I get the knife back from Spyderco.

That is a broad statement.....hence my post.

That's a good point, but I personally would just let it break in. If it still sticks, give it a few days, just play with it, and you'll see that it'll be as smooth as your PM2. :) I'm not trying to bother you here, I just want you to give the knife a shot. Hopefully Spyderco can fix this issue for you!

Many things in life need to break in. Engines, shoes, frying pans, firearms and belts are all examples. Every knife I have owned has got better with time and some have amazed me with how smooth they have become after a lot of carry. Not just the lock but the pivot and washers polish up with use too and the parts fit to each other with just a tiny bit of wear. If you don't give it a chance then you will never know what you could be missing. I like to scribble on the tang/lock interface with a pencil to apply some graphite and smooth things up until they break in. Usually it is the tab on the liner part of the lock which has a slight bur or edge and needs to be polished up a bit by using it. I have had a few be a little sticky at first but they have all smoothed out. If you are having a different problem then hopefully Spyderco will sort it out and make it right. In the end do whatever makes you happy. After all, haters are gonna hate. :D

My yo had to be broken in for a period of about a month to make it "flow" out perfectly, but when all was said and done I felt like it finally became MY knife instead of just another folder.

Pretty sure you're gonna be well taken care of (Especially if SAL chimed in)

Every one of my Yo2's (S30V and S90V) are flawless in every way. The compression locks are all fantastically smooth and lock up ultra solid. Blades are centered perfectly and arrived super sharp. The same can be said for all of my Para2's as well. The Yo2 is my favorite Spyderco. The hole is positioned exactly where it should be IMO. Everything on the knife works together perfectly. Excellent design.

Take the advice, work it in for awhile. You won't be sorry. It is an amazing knife worth the effort.

Quick follow up on Yojimbo 2. Received back from Spyderco today 11/20/14. It operates like it should. I am now very happy with this purchase. Thanks Spyderco

The yojimbo is my favorite production spydie. I have two and both came with actions tha weren't up to my standards. After a lot of trial and error, I've managed to figure out how to tweak the comp locks to make them work correctly. Now both of mine operate perfectly
