For those who use their Yojimbo 2 as an EDC, how much basic utility work does it see? I don't mean complete grunt tasks (no prying), but who uses Yojimbo 2 for everyday slicing and dicing?

With its razor sharpness and pointed blade, I find it quite efficient for opening mail and packages and other minimalist cutting. But I'm mindful of keeping it sharp and maintained for the task for which it was designed. It's a fun knife overall and I love using it for non-defensive purposes whenever possible. The S30V Yojimbo 2 is just too good to keep in reserve as a deadly pocket queen. And yes, I just coined that term... :D

I typically carry a Swiss Champ or Explorer SAK or Mora for harder use scenarios but I look for any excuse to deploy my favorite Wharncliffe!

It is a box cutter on steroids. I don't use it on boxes but it is a large utility knife and that is how I use it. Scoring sheetrock and other utility knife tasks.

I like to hear that! How often do you have to touch up the blade under such usage? I love taking care of my steel, so I don't mind the effort but I'm curious how frequently you have to sharpen to maintain it in maximum SD readiness.

Of course, Yojimbo 2 or any pointed knife is going to be a relatively formidable defensive weapon, even if not in tip top sharpness.

I don't carry knives for SD but I am obsessed with sharpness. I touch most of my knives up regularly. Any knife will need a touch up after scoring sheetrock. One thing about the Yojimbo is that in general the tip take most of the abuse so often most of the edge is still quite sharp.

I like to sharpen it on benchstones to keep the edge straight but put a little more focus and pressure towards the tip since it dulls the most.

Truth be told, I don't carry a knife for SD either. That's what my brain and firearms are for (in that order), with the knife being a good back up. And I like to use my knives for any task necessary, so I guess I must admit I'm moderately obsessed (is that a paradox?) with sharpness too.

Either way, I'm glad to know your Y2 holds up. Do you have any pics of it you'd be willing to share? I'd be particularly interested to see the edge and tip considering the tasks for which you use it.

I use it as an edc.
Why?
1)ergonomics are amazing, as well as lock.
2) can literally cut everything
3) easy to mantain and not prone to scratches
4)in case of a very dangerous situation That knife IS the knife, seriously. Than again I would run away 99%. But in that 1% I cannot think a better knife.
5) relAtivly cheap, light.

The bad side? Tip is Not fragile, but do not abuse

I couldn't agree more. You nailed it here.

I love the Yojimbo2.

I also agree. The ergonomics of Yojimbo make it a joy to carry (and deploy incessantly throughout the day) and the functionality makes me really appreciate that I've got my bases covered with this knife. Carrying a SAK or other multitool allows me to use Y2 for various tasks without having to abuse it.
