I'm looking for some Yojimbo photos. I'd like a spine shot showing the blade taper as it reaches the tip and a photo in hand to get a general idea of the size. Both would be very appreciated, thanks.

Hope this helps. The tip is very thin and weak, dont do any prying with it. I did with my black and broke the tip off. Took it to my friend and he fixed it, you can hardly tell, but the tip is very fragile.

Well, I think "Very fragile" is very relative. I agree, it is not a prying tool, but I ran the tip of mine hard into a table top made of reconstitued stone (accidentally) and lost maybe half of a milimeter, substantially less than the edge grind. From the pictures I would say that the length of tip lost on the Yojimbo above was not appreciable either. Michael Janich has driven the tip through a pig skull without any lost of the tip. Mine has served EDC tasks just fine, but yes, it is more a needle than a prybar.

HoB actually you are right. I only lost the edge grind part, not very much at all. Although it was on my black yojimbo not the blue one in the pics. And I know I should not be using it as a prybar, but I have used every knife I have ever owned to pry to a small degree. Now when I carry my "more fragile" knives I also carry my strider Pt and atwood prybaby for the minor prying jobs that come up in my profession. The Yojimbo is a great knife and an exceptional cutter. One of the first good knives that I ever bought.

Thanks for the photos. I'm debating between the Yojimbo and Spec Bump right now. I haven't held the Yojimbo, but it looks extremely comfortable. Both knives have less popular edge styles. Both have G10 handles, one textured and one 3D machined, with the Yojimbo being the lighter of the two.

Both incredible knives...it's going to come down to their radically different blade designs...wharncliffe is as straight as they come, and the Bump line is as curvy as they come...

I think the yojimbo is more limited in that aspect, but the Kershaw needs reprofiling and the yojimbo likely won't. Reprofiling a Spec Bump blade in S30V is about the last thing I want to do, so that's a big point in Spyderco's favor.

On a side note, if you're concerned for the yojimbo's tip strength, you might consider the Benchmade gravitator, which has a very similiar overall design (although they look pretty different) but is significantly beefier (and doesn't cut nearly as well....). They both have a ton of Snody influence.

I had the spyderco ronin (pretty much same blade as a yojimbo but fixed blade) and I have a spec bump. They are both very different blade styles. The spec bump also snaps open like an auto (and fires very hard). I have held a yojimbo and my taste is far more for the spec bump. It comes razor sharp also but I did not the bevels are not equal which is weird. I have diamond stones so can easily reprofile it when it gets blunt so I am not really worried. The handle on the spec bump is also fantastic..very much like a zero tolerance knife.

I have both a Yo and a Spec Bump and both are among my favorite knives. And Vivi, in my experience you have been completely correct in your accessment. My Spec Bump needed significant reprofiling before it could reach a cutting ability that I was happy with and that I can touch up now on the Sharpmaker. And reprofiling such a sever recurve is DIFFICULT. The Yo was fine but I thinned it out even further. I must say on the handle the Spec Bump gets the nod, very, very comfortable, and I believe it has the largest blade to handle ratio of all knives I have. It is pretty amazing how long a blade they squeeze into the handle. You don't really notice it until you compare it to a Manix or Mili. The recurved blade performs very well, once it is thinned out a bit (mine is not about 15 deg per side down from right around 20). The Yo is still a favorite of mine. The blade is essentially the utility blade deluxe (should be, it was inspired by one) and it performs like that. The needle like tip often comes in really handy. The tip penetration is incredible and the straight edge is pretty easy to sharpen. I like both locks a lot. I am a big fan of the compression lock and and equally big fan of the Stud-lock. If I had my way, there would be a lot more of both.
They are very different knives, but both get a big  from me.

Just a point above..that spec bump is now out of production I believe...mine has the machined starburst g10 and s30v blade, not 154cm. It came very sharp, just the bevels are not even. Great pics though.

Yeah, thanks for the pictures.

I just traded for an S30V Spec Bump. I'm not sure whether to keep it and reprofile it or trade it for a Yojimbo. I think either way I'll end up with a great knife.
