Yojimbo pics

That is funny. When I saw a picture of the Yojimbo for the first time I also thought it was "butt ugly", but in real life, I think it is actually a very good looking knife....IMHO the best looking knife in the entire Spyderco line up. And the cool Yojimbo logo eched on the blade just adds to it. Granted, it is an unusual design, but that is part of its beauty I would say.

There is only one thing wrong with this knife in regard to its form, function and design intent. There is no trainer! Sal, I will say it again. There is no trainer!

For those of us who carry for defensive purposes, this is an absolute necessity.

End of rant.

regarding the trainer, we do have Mike's design and it is quite nice. If sales on the Yojimbo are acceptable, we'll make a trainer to go with it.

We'll need to see the demand.

Sal,

Thank you for your reply. It is good to know that Spyderco’s commitment to the tools of Martial Blade Craft is tempered by economic pragmatism. But perhaps, as my English wife might say, this business plan is “penny wise and pound foolish”. Spyderco might sell many more Yojimbos and the dedicated trainer if you took a less cautious approach and marketed the tools in the context of their design intent. You would also give your dealers and resellers an opportunity to build the sale. A win, win, win situation.

I seem to remember that the Temperance and its dedicated trainer were released at or close to the same time. Laudable, but the Temperance is just not suitable for every-day-carry in most places in the USA. Hmmm… Just my two cents.

All that silliness aside, I do compliment you and Spyderco on the excellent execution of the design. I am sure that the Yojimbo will be a strong seller for many years to come. I will acquire several more as funds become available.

Best,

Mike
