I was intrigued when I first saw the Yojimbo, but thought,
it's too big. I recently lost my Native Lightweight that I've used for most of the past 5 years, and I was looking for a replacement.
Someone suggested the ParaMilitary. Having recently experienced the smoothness and strength of the Compression Lock, I gave serious thought to the Para- then I noticed the Yojimbo is almost identical in length, but has a shorter blade (potential long-term student factor). I ordered the Yojimbo from New Graham.
I've been jonesing all day, waiting for UPS, and checked the tracking info to find that my knife had been delivered a half hour before? I asked my roommate, who had seen the truck go past...started walking down the street, until I saw a small white box 6 houses down. Easy to see how the UPS driver could confuse 315 w/ 321.
So, I get the box open. Yup, my first impression was right: this baby is BIG. As I started lifting the black G10 out of the box, the
lanyard hole liner slipped halfway out. Hm.
SO: lockup is smooth, but strong. There is no discernible blade play at all. Blade is sharp. Very sharp. This one scares me, a little. For now, I'm closing it with two hands. Tip is like a needle, but strong enough for intended purposes. The G10 is *extremely* grippy, but better too rough than too smooth. All in all, a very well-done knife, except for the liner slipping out.
Suggestions for the liner? Locktite? Remove?
General carping on a well-designed knife: it would be nice if the handle were either a tad shorter, or the clip were mounted at the top of the knife, so less handle protruded from the top of the pocket.
I now have to see how she performs as EDC.
