You can only have two...

I have an RC6 right now... and even though i have used it yet... i am already contemplating an RC3...

You mentioned that you want the RC3 for backpacking and for longer hauls the RC6... could you elaborate on this please?

Knifeability mentioned that he carries the 3 and 6 everytime he goes out...

In your case... why carry a smaller knife when going backpacking? I mean, don't you need a bigger blade to help you build shelter and fire (batoning, chopping, etc)

I have a 4 and love it but as you already have an izula I'd say go for the 6.

And as for the edge plain is IMHO the most practical and easiest to maintain

I was thinking the 6 if i didn't have to pack it for a few days in which case i would be camping at a site and have a bigger fire with lots of wood work and possibly a shelter but when i backpack its more of a one night in one spot on the trail and the next night is totally different. No need to process a bunch of wood when i go on these hikes. i make more of a gather fire. so i figure the 3 would be the better all around choice for weight and work load. Any Help?

But if i really think about my system a 6 would be "good weight" and i would have a bigger blade if i ever really needed it.

the way i see it is this: when you go camping, hiking, or backpacking you don't know what's going to happen right? You might end up needing the bigger blade (6)... i you only have the 3, then tough luck... but if you have the 6, it will do the job, and it will do the job of the 3 (maybe not as good if you have to deal with small tasks, but it will do the job)... and I think this is the reason why i bought the 6 first...

I do want a smaller knife now (but if I go out, i might like to go with the two all the time)...

What do others think?

As a friend of mine often says "chance favors the prepared mind", having the proper mindset and the tools to use could make all the difference. If you don't mind the weight of a longer heavier blade then it isn't a problem. When ever I go out I have, the pocket chainsaw, the RC 5 and izula(soon to be the HEST). The little added weight of these useful tools is nothing compared to the piece of mind that I have even on just a day hike. One never knows what can happen as you said. I tend to over pack and have too much or more than I usually need, but I have never been too hot, cold or wet hiking and snowshoeing here in CO.

If you have the Izula, I would go with the 4 and the 6. Although I really see no need for the figuring out which to get now. Eventually, they will all be under your control ;)

Its all just personal pref, im going to go with the 6 for a while and see what its like to carry on my backpack trips. An like every one says i WILL have one of each eventually! haha

Thanks for all the input everyone.

I just got back from a nine day trip where I carried my trusty RC4 and an Izula...the RC4 never came out of my pack since I did everything with the Izula. I could have saved some serious weight on the trail if I just left the '4 at home.

I have the Izula and RC-5 and this would be my pick. Now, if I had the RC-6 and RC-3 than that would be better or even the Junglas and RC-4...now that's a pair!

All in all I think I'm going to go with the 3 and the 6. Going with all the input I have received from this forum Im sure I will have one of each eventually :D

I think you’re on the right track. 6 and a 3 would pretty well cover your bases. With that said, since you already have an Izula, a 6 and a 4 wouldn’t be a bad combo either.

If you really want a do-everything pair, and keep it all ESEE, get an ESEE3, and wait for the Junglas or Lite Machete to come out and take your pick.

For me it would have to be the HEST and ESEE-5. I love them all but for overall use these two would fit the bill for me.
