You can only take one with you

Easy, the EDC I always go back to anyway;

If we're talking fixed blades, definitely a Buck 119. If it's folders, it would have to be a Case 6375 large stockman in CV and bone. That's nearly 9" of blade that will tuck away nicely in your pocket.

Love that finn...Very cool...Definitely a med-large stockman pattern..in carbon or cv although if it's for the rest of my life stainless might not be bad either I play with them all, but can't pick a favorite yet.

I get 4-3/16" measuring it now.. but they were supposed to be 4-1/4" IIRC. Big heavy knife overall, 7/8" wide and 5/8" thick, I like the heavy "solid" feel.

If you had to choose just one knife out of your collection to use for the rest of your life, which one would it be?

The vast majority of my days are spent working (at a computer) and putzing around the house, raising my kids, etc. While I love being in the woods and camping and hiking, more of my leisure time gets devoted to stuff like playing music and golf. Given that, I'd want something very pocketable, not like a trapper or Buck 110. And since this is a LIFETIME decision, I'd probably go with my U.S.-made, carbon steel Schrade 33OT Old Timer Middleman Jack - those durable delrin handles would survive a nuclear blast unscathed, man.

If we could choose a knife that's not currently in our collection, I might switch my answer to a Victorinox Cadet II. Again, I'd make this choice with an eye on both pocketability and durability, but here I get a couple screwdrivers too boot and can more easily open my beers on a hot afternoon. :D

This is a traditional forum. As such, I say SAKs are cheating (But I can still carry my Swisscard and P-51.)

Mine would probably be my new Moore Maker Serpentine Stockman- it has two clip, a sheepsfoot, a spey, and a punch blade. One for every task, from whittling to skinning.

navihawk, the VK Moose is a great knife! I'm in the process of getting a Winchester Moose as well...it would be also be a good one to have in the woods!

I'd put these two Winchester's from the late 80's right up there with the one's that Ron just showed. The larger (first knife) is just under 4" and the smaller equal-end is 3 5/8" with the addition of a Tom Krein regrind on the two blades. (Wow!)

At the moment it`d definitely be my new EDC by german Uwe Heieck!
Received it on saturday and fondle it all day long. :D

It`s small enough to have it with me all the time and big enough to do most of the jobs requested. (total length ~ 7.6", tip to ~ 3.6" and cutting edge of ~ 3") Even it`s more kind of 3finger knife it fits the hand nicely and gives plenty of grip and cutting control!

Hope it`s traditional enough?

Probably a trapper, because the longer blades would last longer with sharpening.

However, I'd like to change the rules and be allowed to take one from Blues' collection, so I would have more fun thinking about it!

Slade, you're always welcome to visit and have a look. I'll let you know just how comfortable I am with your choice, however. ;)

The rules- only one, one only. If it was only a survivorman situation, with possible need to use it as defensive tool, I might have to rethink larger. If everyone is friendly.......a short spell ago I would gone against my Buck roots have said my old SAK Hunter.

Recently I might say my new Buck X-Tract, but of course the battery will eventully run down......

But in the REAL end I will go on to the here-after with only a Buck 303 in my pocket (the undertaker is a buddy, he swears on oath to make it happen)

Fixed Blade?: Buck 105...probably. It has been riding with me for twenty years now.

Slipjoint Folder? : Camillus Cub Scout Knife, or SAK Soldier...Uh, I pick the Cub Scout.

this week, next week it could change.
