sorry this is just a useless rant I felt like getting off my chest
I had these handles carved in Indonesia they have some skilled carvers there who do amazing work. I picked some historical examples and sized them to fit my knife kits both the large and small ones.
They are supposed to be antler, could be bone but look like antler to me.
I sent very specific sizes and measurement with the photos which he basically ignored. The small ones are too big for my small blades and small for the large ones, the large ones are just too big. Unlike the really nice photo's he sent me of his work these are a bit crude. And then to make matters worse he must have packed them right after carving because when I unwrapped them, plastic bubble wrap and all, they were covered in mold. I soaked them in bleach to kill it but the mold had eaten into the handles in spots so i can't recover that. You can see it at the ends especially and on the aligator ones
So now I have a handful of handles I paid a decent amount of money for that are basically useless and no refund in sight. As it is the profit margin on what I sell barely gets me a McD's meal, I more got into this because I wanted to see the designs I draw on paper come to life then make money, but this just annoys me. What I was looking for was a steady supplier of quality products but this buy is a one and done. I really don't understand doing business like this. I get he made some money but eventually you run out of people who will do business with you.
My business model has always been if you don't like it for any reason then a 100% refund including return shipping. I had a few pen kits returned, pen kits are tricky things to get right, but that's about it. But they key point is it's there. Why should someone be stuck with something they bought thru the mail if they don't like it? To me that's a big part of mail order since a customer can't see the product they should know they aren't stuck with something they don't like
I am going to try a different supplier and chalk this one up to learning experience.
