You get one CRKT, which one?

Strictly CRKT speaking, I would be ok with a M16 spearpoint (preferablly AUS8), or urban shark, or the M18.
But you can get an Spyderco Endura at about 50USD.
CRKT isn't bad, in fact they're pretty good knives at online prices. It's just that I found them not heat treated hard enough for their AUS6. Spyderco's knives are known to be very sharp and durable. Warranty service is incredible (but not infalliable). I have knives that I sent in for sharpening and came back with a new one because the knife didn't withstand their rigorous test. They test each and every one knife going back for reconditioning. They had refinish my Native SS's handles so that they look new. They've remove stains on G10 that I can't remove. CRKT's warranty is well meaning, but with my limited experience, one of the person there tends to overlook things. But they're very willing to send you stuff like screws and even washers free of charge.

For a CRKT, I'd got with the large M18, great blade for the price.

If it has to be a folder, it will be my Hawk D.O.G. My D.O.G. is one impressive heavy duty folder, that I have abused quite lovingly. If it can be a fixed blade, make it my ryan plan B. This little fixed blade has become my favorite knife.

Personaly, I think the m-16 crkt knives have very bad locks. i have had them fail on me. no bloody results thanks to the carson fliper.so i would not go with crkt when you can have a benchmade 710 with the strong axis lock better stronger steel that holds and edge better than any crkt. you can get them for around 120 bucks.

Hope this helps

ps you will be glad you went with the benchmade... that is ... if you do

If it HAS TO BE a CRKT, then get the Crawford/Kasper Professional FF...Otherwise get an Al Mar SERE 2000 or a Spyderco Endura/Delica.

OK, under $175.....Spyderco Delica. Same price range as most CRK&Ts and a whole lot more solid. Spyderco's lock back pounds CRK&T's liner lock into the ground and is far less likely to fail. I would choose a Queen slip joint over CRK&T. YMMV.:D

Actually, I had a Delica and it was a nice little knife, but I also had a CRKT M-1 and the CRKT was by far the more solidly built knife. This thing was a tank and had a very smooth action and it came extremely sharp.

My choice from Spyderco would be a Military or CF Police, with the Military having the more utilitarian blade. I would also take the Endura over the Delica, because I prefer the larger size, with the handle fitting my hand better.

Crawford/Kasper Professional Model, plain edge. Excellent EDC.

I'd have to agree with Mr. Montgomery on the CRKT M1. I just got one two weeks ago for my birthday and this things a monster! Damned thing's already nipped me a few times it's so sharp (straight outta box).

I'd been carrying a CRKT M16-12M for the past two years (another b-day present :))and decided to switch over to the M1. I think the modified tanto blade is more suitable for what I needed than the traditional tanto style. And I really enjoy the fact I now have 4 different carry options with it. I have switched to carrying tip up now...as I pull the M1 out of my pocket, the flipper is right there ready for my index finger to make it come alive! ;)

Anyway, that's my $.02. Good luck in your journey!

The onliest ones I have any exp with are the Tighe-Tac (good EDC) and Bear Claw necker (better hard use for my tastes).
Been thinking about checking out a Crawford/Kasper, though. That beast looks like a railroad spike on the Atkins diet, JAT.

Smoke, I don't have one, but I'd like to pick one up cheap or used. I am anti-linerlock, so CRKT doesn't leave me much. I like the looks of the Cascade - upswept blade, comfy looking handle with a half-guard front & rear, fingergrooves, and a lockback.

Go get either one of the CRKT BladeLock knives, the first one is down around $20 or $30 now since the release of the II. I don't care for linerlock or lockbacks myself and that is a slick locking mechanism. It's not a high class uber-knife but it gets the job done. he lock is on the thumbstud, a lock where you automatically hit it when you put your thumb out to open or close it. After 4 years of EDU (everday USE) I had to dismantle the knife and clean the extra moving parts out.
