I know that this has been brought up a lot lately, but some of the recent asking prices for Busse knives is surprising, but even more surprising is that they are being sold! I guess it is only making me richer on what I already have, but it also makes it impossible to buy anymore!

O.K., I shared my thoughts, flame on! :D

There was a time within the last few years that I thought anyone that would pay more thatn $100 for a knife was a fool. I guess I am now a fool by my old standards. A thing is worth what you are willing to pay for it.

Well, some are selling, but others are not. I see some relatively common blades at too high an asking price (IMHO). I just grabbed a Mole Jack at the best price I've seen in weeks. Rare knives are hard to price, as there is no history to go by. But serious collectors will make a gut decision, ( and hide the bills from their wife :D ;) )

No flaming. Somewhere along the lines, someone upped the prices WAYYYYYYYYY to high and it's only snowballed further.

Actually I've had the exact same thought. It makes my collection worth more but there's no way I can really see buying something. I'm glad I got into this when I did and was able to snag all that I did. Now if I want something I'm looking at only new knives while they're available from the shop.

I like a lot of the older knives and I'm glad I got them when I did.

You mean like Game Wardens going for 50% more than they sold for 2 weeks earlier? Just an example. I think there are more people buying with profit in mind these days than even a year ago.

When my 1 of 300 SHBM's reach $10,000 I will sell:thumbup:

Hey, do you have a roll press so I can lengthen my SHSH's to 9.5 inches?

My concern on that is there are some newer guys to the fold of Busse's knives and are looking for some great pieces to use. They, if like me, don't have large funds for knives and the current prices put a hurt on the wallet. And don't give me the BS of "Well, tough for the new guys". I have known of one hog that sent one of his knives to a new guy to abuse, not use, but ABUSE to see if he liked infi and if it was all it was cracked up to be. I have recieved deals from hogs and passed those deals on. That is why I stayed here and remained so active.

These are just my thoughts and mine alone. They are mine, take them for what they are worth to you. :)

That's the approach I've adopted… but I have 3 or 4 that I was lucky enough to get at the lower end of the recent price range. But still there are several older blades that I would love to have… but it probably wont happen unless I get lucky like porkducci or Bill Siegle on a rare find.

You really think mine will sell for that?

Wooo Hoooo!!!!!!:D

That makes it even more fun to find the good deals. It's more work but it makes the finds so much sweeter ;)

:D:D

Another Hog and I were recenlty discussing the current snowball effect in the secondary market and as far as I can see, the only way to combat the prices we feel to be excessive is to not buy. I hazard the new guys to do research into the original pricing of some of these things and decide for themselves if the asking price is fair to them. That is what I do. Consider the rarity of the blade, the frequency with which they come up for sale, etc. If a knife is a one off or less than a dozen were made, that is a lot different than a FSH or Hell Razor or something.

Ducci, I know you aren't talking about me! :D:D:D

SHBM's are currently fetching around $1,200 !!!!! I should have bought one earlier in the year when they were only 600-ish..

We do need to be careful when we examine recent prices. The only SHBM I've seen sold outright recently was Raden's that just sold for $1100 (not $1200) and it was a factory DC so I would imagine that would command a premium. Still much higher than approx. $600 from last year, but not enough to push the prices through the roof.

The problem becomes when someone else pays over $1000 for a SHBM that may not be as rare, and suddenly there really is a price escalation. I agree with PG, we all need to make sure we are exercising some restraint when we pull the trigger on a special knife (with a special price).

Did I miss some other SHBM sales?

I think it started when one sold awhile back for $950 on KF. Since then, the prices have continued to climb...

Thanks for speaking up for us piglets and newbie!

I buy what I can on the BC and Co Store and enjoy. Some I miss :grumpy: but won't pay the secondary market price because : I know if I hang around the trough there will be new blade at a fair price, or fun events like the Ganza :D

Thanks everyone for posting their pics for all of us to enjoy  Everybody want to own the world but happiness can be find in sharing others joyful experiences! No flame, just LOVE! :D

That would explain it - I don't regularly check KF. I also take eBay with a grain of salt as the prices there can really get crazy (not that I've seen any SHBM up recently.)

The only reason I asked is that I don't have a SHBM and its on my list of "really really want" knives. I know I'm not alone in that, but I'm beginning to think I missed my chance to get one.
