I went over to meet a guy who told me he had a knife sign that I might want for the new shop. He said it had been in the overhead of his shop for a long time ( he is a maker, who hasn't done much in many years). I said I would pick it up Saturday, but he said he would meet me at my friends BBQ place, and I cold buy him a sandwich in payment. I figured it was some old barn sign for Buck Knives or such, and it would really look neat on the wall.
Well, he showed up and in the back of his truck was a gray sign. It took less than a second to recognize it for what it was.....A Neon "KNIVES" sign.
I took it home and washed off the 1/8" layer of shop dust, checked it over, opened it up.....and it is brand new. It was never installed anywhere. The wires were bundled for delivery, the hanging brackets taped to a brace, and a sheet of paper with the hookup instructions taped to the wires. The only cosmetic issues are some places where he put boards on top of it and scraped a little of the brown paint off the top of a few letters.
After washing it up a bit more, installing a power cord, and flipping the switch......It is fantastic!
This gent had it made by a local sign company that makes most of the business neon signs in town. I believe he intended to use it as a decorative sign in his shop and never put it up. He just gave it to me saying, " I thought it might look good in your new shop."
H@!!, yeah, it will !!!!!
