Looks a little thin in the scales - I just got an e-mail back from BHK, and they said the scales are 5/8th in width.

5/8 for eack scale plus 1/8 for the blade should give a 11/8 handle, so that seems pretty beefy to me. Actually, that seems thick enough to where I am guessing my estimation is wrong.
That would be quite beefy, but having seen other BH knives I'd assume it's 5/8" total. Though I'd be happy to be corrected.
Well, while they are not custom, I believe they will modify a knife for you...
1. Call them up, the phone is their preferred method, so far as I can tell.
2. Find out how thick the handle is.
3. If you want it different, tell them, and I bet they will happily build you what you want.
They are still building the knives. "(We are building these now and they will be delivered by the end of the month)" So, I have no doubt they could make one your way.
I called them up, because I heard they were making handles for the Mule Team knives, and they basically L.T. told me they could do anything I wanted.
So, I definitely get the sense that they are willing to alter a design, or build it a bit different to make you happy.
I have talked to L.T. twice now, and it was a pleasant experience.

Guys, thank you for this post. It is always good to see what you all want in a knife...wider handle, larger blade...etc. The blade thickness is 1/8" and the scales are a 1/4" piece of micarata per side, then ground to shape...so it's a bit thinner. I hope this clears up the size question. We are new to scandi's and wanted a knife to start with. Dan and I feel this is a great intro. We do consider everything we see printed or said about our knives...that is what we hope will make us better. Thanks for the comments.
God Bless

5/8" total is pretty narrow.
They should just sell the blades for those who want a wider handle
