You left home in the morning and you take your favorite knife with you.......

- Does it take care of all the cutting needs of the day
- Can you survive a week in the Alaskan wilderness with it?
- Can you skin a squirrel whit that knife?
- Is it easy to clean before you use it as a steak knife in a restaurant
- Do you dare give it to your child who wants to peel an apple with it
- If the knife drowns or breaks, is it "the end of the world"

Having been born in Alaska and here my whole life I can agree with this as a daily checklist except I've never skinned or eaten a squirrel. Now spruce hen and ptarmigan have been a life saving spontaneous meal before when things go ... Not so according to plan. Best meal I've ever had was plain boiled ptarmigan.

I will say I have added a silky f180 to my every day bag and have used it more than a few times.

Edit:
One of these goes with me on any outing. I love my LT in 3v and carry it most.

I reckon this would do OK against the checklist

The only issue I've found with folders is animal blood will seize them up quickly if you can't clean them promptly. I made my lone wolf a fixed blade years ago with caribou blood. Took about 10 minutes while we were processing and hanging the animal. I was able to loosen it up enough in the field but it required a full dissembling to make it right.

This is very true, and why I switched to a SOG SEAL Pup from a EKA Swingblade for hunting.

My knife will outlast me unfortunately. But yes the knife I have will do any all that.
I don’t understand the knife breaking part. How are you guys breaking knives ?

I've broken handles before, or rather had them finally break. Only blades I've broken have been from my misuse

-almost always, yes.
-maybe but I'll need more than a knife...
-yes, but I would rather it be a rabbit.
-yes, good enough
-yes
-yes

The knife? Vic Waiter.

Today I'll carry a skrama 240, a silky bigboy, and the LTW. I have a lot of yardwork to do and dead trees to bring down / process. Been practicing falling and cutting with the silky. Those 3 items for me can take care of all my cutting needs. They work well together and are replaceable if needed. It's also the 3 I take if I go into the wilderness on the atv's. The LT works great for fire starting aswell.

Normally I have a Sage 5 LW, Leatherman Wave and either a Fällkniven A1, Gerber Strongarm or a semi-custom knife of mich the same size and weight as the Strongarm. These tools generally do everything I ever need to do and do it well. I've never been to Alaska and I doubt I'd survive a week there with only these tools, but mostly because of my inexperience 😅

I would never be so cruel and heartless as to let any of my knives believe that any one among them is my favorite. It's unthinkable! I also would never leave the house (or be in the house) with just one (or two... or three...) knife! It's . . . wrong!

Does it take care of all the cutting needs of the day-Yes
- Can you survive a week in the Alaskan wilderness with it?-probably not but I’ll do fine in the Midwest
- Can you skin a squirrel whit that knife?-yes but you really don’t need a knife to do that.
- Is it easy to clean before you use it as a steak knife in a restaurant-yes but why not just use the steak knife they give you?
- Do you dare give it to your child who wants to peel an apple with it-if the kid is mine and 10 he/she would and did have their own knives
- If the knife drowns or breaks, is it "the end of the world"-Nope I have a spare at home.
