You may all go to hell and I will go to Texas

I visited that place while in the military. Sweet.

Wow. Nice pictures. If you look closely at the portrait of James Bowie you can see his right hand is wrapped around the handle of a knife with what appears to be a D-guard. Neat stuff. Some pretty nice knives in the display cases too.

Phil Collins, rock music singer, donated a large collection of items to them just a couple of years ago. What a great guy. I hope to visit this place one day.

Ah, the Bowie.
Apex of fighting knife design.
Truly our own American classic.
Thanks for sharing.

well, one of my biggest disappointments for me was my first impression of the Alamo. growing up watching westerns I went to the Alamo in 1981 as a 21 year old kid itching to see El Alamo. I was shocked to find it nestled between skyscrapers in downtown SA. Why my state couldn't have allotted more room for something that so symbolized its heritage was just, and still is, beyond me. It moved me going through the place and its a great experience with lots of Tejas memorabilia, just don't expect it to be out on the South Texas brush.

That is really cool. Texas has some of the most interesting museums I have walk through in our nation. If you haven't been I highly recommend the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco. It's right across from Baylor Univ.

Would be nice if everything wasn't jammed around it but I'm guessing it wouldn't get the exposure and gift shop sales if it were outside the city.

Went to the Ranger museum in the Buckhorn Saloon. What a display.

And the Battle for Texas: The Experience museum across the street. This is where the true artifacts are. Once you're done touring the unique displays they take you on an Alamo reenactment.

Would I love to have this. Davy Crockett's knife. Supposedly used to kill a bear.

These are from the 1960 John Wayne movie.

Tha gift shop lady asked me why I didn't find anything to buy and I told her I did and it's in this glass case. She laughed... Oh well.
