This is briefly my sad series of events:

1. Decide it's time to get a new EDC to replace my old but sturdy fully serrated Endura.
2. Tell my wife I'd like new partially serrated Endura for Father's day - about $40, I say.
3. Get online and make the mistake of shopping around.
4. Order CS Recon 1 for $80.
5. Receive Recon 1.
6. Send Recon 1 back. Wrong blade and, IMHO, it's not an $80 knife.
7. Find these forums and reach the conclusion that BM 710 is good.
8. Order BM 710 with straight edge M2 for three times Endura price.
9. Very happy with 710. Haven't updated wife. Very afraid.

Seriously, I appreciate all of the advice that's been posted in the forums. The 710 is very nice.
In case you're curious, the blade ligns up perfectly but was on the dull side out of the box. A little time with a Spyderco sharpener fixed that (that recurve is tricky at first!). I want it to be nice and sharp when my wife uses it on me for going wayyy over budget.

Wife?

What Wife?

Do you still have a wife?

Oops, wrong forum!

Welcome! This will be your new home.

You can unroll your sleeping bag right over there, sort of behind the couch.

Don't worry. You will not be going over budget just this once. It will be happening again soon. BTW, my 1/2 serrated endura arrived today.

My wife loved it when the charge statement came with my Sebenza on it. She had such sweet things to say in support of my purchase.

Give it time my fellow newbie. Since lurking I have bought several knives. My wife just found my Brend model 2. This may be my last post

Seriously Enjoy

Welcome to the forums, JavaSutra! You certainly made a good choice of a knife. Many people think the 710 is one of the defining knives of the tactical genre.

I guess as a Spydie fan I should get in here that its too bad you didn't get the Wegner, but that wouldn't be polite, so I won't.

Hope you hang around and enjoy yourself much. I resisted the habit a slight bit better than you, but looks like you'll be an addict soon!

Well, JavaSutra, i think that bandaidman is right. Either pay cash or keep a separate account of your own. That's what i do. Never ever had any problems with my wife this way. She buys what she wants, too.

Good luck w/ your new found addiction...... You'll need it; trust me !!!!!!

<font color=red>And then run like hell. . .</font>

But you may consider the following questions "before you decide to" <font color=blue>"be a MAN and stand-up to take what's comin' to ya !"</font>

Can she run faster than you ? Is there a possibility of her runnin' ya down with the family car, truck or van ? Are there guns in the house ? Does she own a sling-shot ? Is there a "large" family dog in the pic ~ if so, does the dog love her more than you ? Is your will up-to-date ? Is she the sole beneficiary of the estate ~ who will reap massive rewards due to your demise or disappearance ?

<font color=red>The other option. . .<font size="4" color="#FF0000">LIE your butt off !</font></font>

But remember. . .if she catches you in your fabrication attempt ~ ~ ~

SEE ABOVE QUESTIONS. . .

Javasutra,

I´m in an almost same kind of situation. I´ve told my girlfriend that I am going to order a custom in the fall. She thinks that I haven´t bought anything, that I´m just browsing the forums to find the right custom.

Mmm, love my Gunting, Commander and BM42.

I hope she doesn´t find out...

Hi we married folks seem to be in the same boat. "My wife doesn't understand my knife addiction" well I have a spydie native wich probaly is the best value for money knife anyway so I wont't be needing any more knives right ?? (he says donning his kevlar reinforced asbest suit)

so thats that problem taken care of .....

Stash some cash.
Cruise the Individual For Sale forum.
Use money orders.
Devise creative hiding places, or
Buy only black handle folders (they all look the same)

Welcome Java. You are among friends here brother. We all the know the situation regarding the wife
smile.gif
. At first my wife was very encouraging "go on honey buy a good knife instead of all those cheap ones", then she was bemused "why do you need lots of knives? They all look the same?". Now she is kind of indifferent. I try and keep it 'equal'. I mean why would any sane person spend $20/30 on a bottle of conditioner?? You can get it for $3.50 at Target! That;s her gig.
She is still the coolest wife ever though. Still i have been known to direcrt the odd UPS package to the office

Happy collecting!

My Wife sold her Glock 9mm to get me a Jody Samson Custom Balisong.

Of course, she has no problem with the addiction, she has a few knives of her own.

And I do believe she sold the Glock so she could claim the Samson was a Father's Day Present but secretly has her eyes on my Sig P-220 .45 Auto.

Knives & Stuff

Welcome to the Forums Java! 710 is a great knife. I hate to bring this up, BUT.....whats next on your list?

My wife was surprisingly good about my recent Sebenza purchase. I thought she was going to go through the roof. But she actually encouraged me to buy it.

Then........ I mentioned that I might save up to buy a custom knife at the upcoming New York show this fall. She said, "You told me that the Sebenza was a knife that would last a lifetime. So, unless you're reincarnated or something, that Seb is the last knife you're ever getting!!!"

I'll have to devise a really good "died and rose from the grave" story before the show.
wink.gif

Actually, I do a lot of sidework, fixing computers for people. I just tuck the cash I make into a piggy bank until I can afford what I want.

Welcome Java!!! You've got a great knife. It may be all you'll ever need..... but I bet it won't be all you'll ever buy.
biggrin.gif

Bad news: if you start out with a knife as great as the 710, things are only going to get more expensive for you.

Yes, we ARE dangerous...We own and carry sharp, pointy things!.
biggrin.gif
.

PS...Before it's too late for you, find yourself a good 12-step program to help fight your growing knife-addiction. I've tried to help myself, but have "fell off the wagon" MANY times!...(Maybe I should talk to a Priest about an Exorcism.).
