For the final finishing i hand sand the blade takes a while but it is worth it

yea i thought about it but maybe the dremel with the sanding wheels might work mayb u guys have used them for this?

I used half round files to rough out rounded areas and then used sandpaper around round dowels to finish my knives for a long time. Then I bought a drill press and got different sanding mandrels so I could use sanding drums. I think the ones I use most are 1/2" and 3/4". I do plan on buying a oscillating drum sander one of these days!

You can buy sanding drums and sleeves (in various grits) pretty reasonably. For example these:

You can mount those in a drill press, lock the quill and have at it, or even use them in portable drill run slowly.

You could even wrap sandpaper around a piece of tubing/dowel/pipe/roll of quarters and use that. Sometimes simple, age-old, solutions work the best. Learning to do things by hand, slowly, meticulously, before you go at them with power lets you see what's really happening as you work. The hand sanding that the pros in here perform on the way to their spectacular finishes are a testament to that. They spend hours at it for a reason. They also treat sandpaper as if it was free....................

A small investment in some Gesswein EDM stones at some point will open your eyes too.

Keep sening pics and don't be afraid to ask questions. EVER!. You'll be surprised with the help available here on BF.

All the above is very good advice and I agree with it. the Dremel will be very useful though. I have one and also an imitatiom Foredom from HF. I use them all the time. IMHO you made a sound investment with the Dremel, but will still be doing a bit of hand sanding also.
