YOUR 2025 Traditional Knife of the Year

Well, this year I REALLY cut back on my knife buying (only 9 all year!), so my KOTY will be quite easy.

Runner Up . . . and the Silver Medal goes to . . .

This has been a very good year for me when it came to knives, starting with this lambsfoot that I received for Christmas last year. This knife checks so many boxes -- beautiful stag, superlative craftmanship, impeccable design. Best of all, it was was a present, made just for me by a friend. It's priceless. Alas, it doesn't quite meet the parameters. I've carried and used it a few times, but not near enough to qualify as KOTY.

This second knife was also a contender. I have wanted it for a while, but never put much effort into acquiring one. On a lark I checked the Exchange, and in a fortuitous turn, found this gorgeous antique bone Case/Bose Norfolk. Here was the One, I had finally found my Case knife. The thing is, it's still a little too precious to me and I haven't been able to bring myself to use it.

My 2025 Knife Of The Year doesn't objectively compare to the two listed above, but it's been in my pocket ever since I bought it from an actual knife shop of all places. I was on vacation with my family in April, and on the way home stopped by an old store I used to visit when I lived in Los Angeles many years ago. This Case swayback jack with chestnut bone covers and CV blades made my eyes go big when I saw it in the display. It's been discontinued for a few years now, so finding one in a retail setting was quite surpring.

IMG_2866.jpeg

It's a very nice knife, very nice indeed considering it's a production piece. What makes it my KOTY is that this is the knife that made me carry a 2nd. For EDC, I've always been a one knife man. While some may carry multiple sharps, I never saw the need. I work in an office, there's never been a cutting task that my #73, my laguioles, or my Ohta couldn't handle. On the other hand, my current workplace is very knife unfriendly, and all those knives listed above are goodly-sized. The Case swayback is a diminutive knife, and no one raises an eyebrow when I use the pen blade to cut open a bale of paper. I now carry it in addition to my primary knife, which can be anything from a Mustang to a KHnutbuster to a lambsfoot.

This Tractor Supply Olive Green Bone Peach Seed Jig SS 6347 Stockman with a Barn Shield is my Knife of the Year. I initially bought two for myself but like it so much I bought four more for handouts to nephews at our family's Christmas get-together. The manufacture date on the box indicates 2024 manufacture but I didn't get one until this year - 2025

I’m in! Thanks 🤗

My 2025 knife of the year my REK Ember 3.5” (size comparison with my CPK EDC in the picture). The REK is used for pocket carry, and I EDC it the most of all my fixed blades. It has a perfect length blade, and the whole package remains thin. It’s not a heavy “out in the woods knife” like the EDC, but is a jack of all trades.

This is The one (bottom knife).

I had a Slower year than usual.....

However I was fortunate enough to get these two near exact beauties out. They were my Achievements this year.... I have lofty goals next year. (Yes, I'm probably already many years behind) Like This year, I'll do what I can... ;/

Thanks.

I can"t go past without having a massive whinge about there not being a 2025 forum knife....Or was there?
I have to make20251214_104852.jpg special mention to the unofficial 25...and many thanks to Greg Leslie Tomville Leslie Tomville for the gift.
My official koty is not so glamorous...a small Taiwanese "Excalibur" that was given to me by my drinking buddy Ken after I had replaced scales on another exactly the same for my othe drinking buddy Brian...these originally had those green checkered plasticky rubber scales...all perished and falling to bits...I replaced with some good Aussie hardwood...Yellowbox...and also rehandled a Swiss Mauser bayonet for him.
Kens knife came with no scales and well used...I had some daggy old bit of antler and made a go of it....the fit isn't perfect but I'm happy with how it polished up....It's my brewery knife for cutting open the boxes.20251214_104632.jpg
Cheers and a Happy and Safe Christmas to you all.20251213_173815.jpg

I am in! Thank you for starting this thread and the opportunity to have some fun with it. I bought this one in 2024, but it didn’t really become mine until it was improved in 2025. My purple 39.IMG_3843.jpeg

I dyed a lot of knives this year. This one was a 2024 Rendezvous knife - Giraffe bone 39, which I was never happy with. It was a white bone knife with a lot of gray polishing smudge that had been polished to into the bone close to the bolsters. I was very pleased when this one was done, but I did have to work on it a few dozen times. I have kept it on me almost everyday since I dyed it.

I only had this Voos a couple of months but it has remained in my pocket since I found it and gave it my spa treatment. Great size and rides in the pocket well

Three true treasure Christian  You should show that Lamb more often! :D ;)
Out of the 30 plus knives I have gotten so far this year (I am surprised too) I believe this RoseCraft Mud Creek Green Micarta Congress is a favorite!!😍 View attachment 3049990
Nice :)
As expected, my '25 KOTY is the BF 911324 stockman number 132 that DocJekl DocJekl gifted me.

Congratulations Steve, that's proving a popular choice :)
Agreed. The chestnut CV was the prize, but I couldn't stop myself from picking this one up too. If one swayback is good, two must surely be better.

Fantastic work

Thanks for the thread Jack but not an entry.

I also slowed down my knife purchases this year but two knives really stand out, with one being extra special to me.

Both are fantastic Waynorth SFO with great jigging and excellent F&F.

It has been a wonderful year to solidify old friendships and developed new ones here.
Through these said friendships, I have been gifted knives which will always be treasured. So as not to offend, I did not chose one of these, even as I carry them as daily users.

The knife I have selected, is one made for me, and of a design rarely shown. It is well built and very functional.

I did not buy a lot of knives this year. I was not going to carry this one. It sat on my computer desk for quite a few months, opening mail. Then it graduated to slicing tomatoes for my lunch sandwich. Once it had a nice patina I decided why not carry it. I only started carrying it a few weeks ago, but it will my carry knife for the foreseeable future. My Waynorth flat cap jigged lamb foot.

I am in for your generous giveaway Jack. Thanks
