So what does everyone here where for boots?

I am looking to do some hiking this fall but am also a landscaper/mason/gardener/arborist/farmer/carpenter/mechanic/caretaker for profession.

So the question:
Anyone use work boots with insoles (or none) for hiking?
Bird boots? etc. whatya use to hike and "survival"

I use Sorel boots in winter, Oboz hikers, salomon trail runners

WOW those are damn nice boots! Anyone use army boots for hiking? where can you get them? ..steel toed?

Lowa boots -- Banff model for me, Scouts for my wife. The Krauts do make excellent boots. Have hiked in mud for three days in these without getting my feet wet.

In the summer when its warm and dry I'll wear new balance tennis shoes when I'm out in the woods. Either those or some chuck-taylors with insoles. If it's cold and wet I'll wear my work boots with wool socks. I like Georgia Boot and Wolverine. I have heard that Danner makes good boots, but I can completely destroy a pair of boots in two months depending on what I'm doing at work, so I don't want to invest in $200 boots.

I have worn some nice boots over the years but LOWA beats them all by a long shot!

I have all but given up on boots. The only ones I wear these days are a pair of knee high Rocky Snake Boots when I am in certain areas.
The rest of the time I am in Merrill or Danner low hiking shoes. Or Keens.

Asolo 520 GTX, nice gore tex full leathers I have had two pairs over my life time and they have never let me down and the design hasnt changed in over 10 years.

Depends I have worn tennis shoes for a lot of hikes also my airborne combat boots have seen some hike time.

I have these Merrell Moab hiking boots. They are by far the most comfortable shoes I have ever purchased. If you have not yet slipped your feet in a pair of Merrells I highly recommend you do as I believe you will instantly notice the superior comfort level for their price point.

For work, (construction) I wear timberlands, I've wore the crap out of them, they're good boots for about 6 months, :D now Aug. 23 I'm getting issued some boots,,,, I'm pretty excited about it, I'll probably post pics later, but back on topic I wore the crap out of some timberlands to doing construction work and they held up quite nicely, a little slick in the mood and on a tin roof, but water proof mostly.

danners all the way everything from the acadia to the flashes and the quarry 2.0 i have been to hell in back and put them through thier paces and still no problems

I'll second Merrells. I bought the Phazer Peak model this year and it's actually my first pair of legit "hiking boots". Very comfortable and they seem to be built tough.

Before those, I've always just worn my workboots on hikes (and everywhere else). This year I made the mistake of wearing my Altama jungle boots on a moderate hike with thin socks. I got two blisters on my ankles the size of silver dollars which wasn't fun (especially on the hike down..) I had worn the Altamas for months at work and everywhere else...but that was all fairly flat ground. Once I started to actually "hike" with them uphill I came across problems. The one solution I think would be to wear thick socks with any boots that have a "seam" near the ankle where two materials come together and create a hotspot..in the case of the jungle boots it was where the leather meets the cordura uppers. Just something to consider if you're going with anything but actual "hiking boots".

I am currently sporting Asolo's. I was always a Danner guy but the Asolo Boot is sweet

The only really outdoor shoes I have are Carolina work boots which are fine for going on small hikes in addition to doing the typical work outside i.e. cutting down trees and splitting wood. during the winter and for hunting I just use hunting boots from Irish Setter I believe.

I do plan on getting a pair of Merrells though. A buddy of mine gets 25% off at a local sporting goods store...so better to get them now!
