*Your BOOTS*

Sounds like you had a bad fit. Did you mail-order them? And you still had them for years?
I had a pair and they were forgettable (which is a good thing for boots when you forget you're wearing them.)

I'm partial to New Balance myself.

i got them in 12's bc 11's were too small. i dont think they had 1/2 sizes (this was years ago).. i kep them bc they were pricey and i didnt want to throw them away. so bundled up on the socks and wore them on days at work that i will not be walking much.. i was very displeased with them... the more i wore them the worse they got

Asolo Sasslong, best hikin boots I've had so far!!!!!

I have a pair of Asolo sasslongs, and it is easy to twist any ankle with these boots, because of the small narrow sole. I am guessing that the sole is small to allow greater step pressure, hence better chance of not slipping, but there is a trade off. Also, they will only stay waterproof after a fresh coat of Sno-seal.

My backpacking boots are a 7-8 year old plair of North Face Katahdin GTX, while my mountaineering boots are a pair of Salomon Super Mountain Guides and my light&fast trail shoes are a pair of Salomon XA Pros(my third pair).

If you want a truly old-school tough boot look no further than Limmer. If you take care of them they usually have a multi-decade lifespan rather than multi-year. They make an off-the-shelf version as well as a fully custom made-to-your-feet version but you will have to pay more and wait about 18 months for those.

They are a little pricey so a great alternative is the Alico brand boots that you can get from sierratradingpost. Same welted all-leather construction. My brother was a pair and they are very nice and comparible to the Limmers.
