Your Celebrity encounters!

They are all custom knifemakers, or associated craftspersons.

It is not a matter of ignorance, more than a matter of inexperience within that specific realm.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Thanks for the heads up Steve.
Appreciated Mate

I used to sideline doing close protection security details for visiting VIPs

So I met (if you can consider lurking around people, not talking to them, but looking after them "meeting"...) here in Cape Town over a couple of years

Arnold Schwarzenegger
Ronan Keating
Rutger Hauer
Robert Patrick
Nicholas Cage
Kristanna Loken
Haddaway
various European royal types

and loads of South African celebrities you've probably never heard of...

PS. I met Lynn Thompson from Cold Steel on a hunting trip a couple of years ago

Pres Bush Sr.
Pres Clinton
Pres Bush Jr.

State Officials:
Various Govs, Senators, Legislators

A bunch of Public Health folks you would probably not know.
Some WWF/WWE wrestlers (friend used to work at venue)

Atheletes:
Dan Gable

'Stars':
Steve Martin
Frank Caliendo
Dave Chappelle
Smashing Pumpkins
George Carlin
Stephen King

*shrug*
I know there are more, but I guess I'm not much for 'celebrity'.

i was at a karate tournament in springfield and jay t will came to watch me fight. i was the only student from his studio to fight in competition. somewhere i have picks of us together. that was back in 1976 if i remember right. my mom told me john f kennedy held me as a baby when he was running for president.

When I went to Blade, I was supposed to meet the famous Bastid. As celebrities will do, he never showed, so I had to go to dinner with some guy named Gus.

Wow! How disappointing that must have been for you. High expectations of meeting the renowned Bastid himself, missing that opportunity, winding up with nothing more than a dinner with some Gus character.

Carmello Anthony, Sidney Ponson, Mark Teixeira(played against him). Denny Neagle, Mike Mussina, and alot more baseball/basketball/football players outside the field and met many in person. George Bush Sr. and Jr., Bill Clinton, Alot of Senators, Mayor Martin O'Malley, Then Mayor Juliani. I have met a bunch of comedians, Dave Attel was by far the coolest but Mich Hedberg was awesome till he died. I know a few musicians now that are locally pretty big and may go nationally big soon, thought that doesnt really count.

Ran into (literally) Mr. Cub himself, Ernie Banks.
Have met and talked with/and-or drank with several music types: Fred Eaglesmith, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jimmy Dale Gilmore.
Sports types: Trace Armstrong, Jim Schwantz (former Bears)

Blade Forum "celebrities": Danbo and Ren. Had to watch myself around those drinking fountains and clock towers respectively though...;):D

Any story to go along with your Mich Hedberg encounter? I really wish I would have seen him while he was still around. "Throw this away for me." Kills me everytime.

I could care less abou meeting celebs..

one time when eating at Ditkas the waitress came up and said that Mr. Ditka was in in his office if we would like to walk up and meet him...

I said..

RTDTB: ( handing her my business card) "No thanks but if Mr. Ditka wants to meet me he can come downstairs" :D

he didnt...his loss...

Has anyone on the forums met celebrities/musicians/people of interest?

Charlie [ Charles Hugh ] Daniels lived next door during part of WWII & he was a tag-along with my gang .

I have my gang's photo holding cap guns & BB rifles. He didn't have a gun so I carved him a knife using my 35 cent Barlow.

Later met Polly Bergen,Toody & Muldoon & 18 months ago met the biggest star of all. My soulmate,Patricia.......

Uncle Alan :D

I used to make bike parts, and met a lot of the Olympians and elite athletes with those connections. Greg Lemond, Andy Hampston, Rebecca Twigg, Team Montgomery Bell, Team ONCE, Leonard Zinn, Bobby Livingston, Team Gold Rush -the tandem land speed record holder, and the '96 Olympic pursuit team rode with parts that I made. I had a pretty big following in the Triathlete and racing market.

I went to school with Travis Tritt and had him in a few classes.

I met Sam Walton at a local Wal-Mart. Here was the richest man in the world handing out shopping carts with a Wal-Mart name tag that said Hi, I'm Sam. No helecopters. No limos. No security guards. He had an assistant with a clipboard taking notes at his side. He was asking everyone as they left if they found everything that they were looking for. One man had been looking for a particular toy and didn't find it. Sam told him to come back TOMORROW and it will BE HERE. Damn. What a guy.

Richard Marcinko
Tom Petty
Elmore Leonard
Gov. Jeb Bush
River Phoenix
Joquain Phoenix

Back in my Army days I pulled security for a Motley Crue concert. They would'nt come out and say hello, but the guys from the band "Brother Cain" were pretty cool to hang around.

I don't guess I have met many celebrities but I have met the families of a couple or so.

I know Parker Posey's parents, Chris and Lynda Posey. Chris is a good friend of my ex-brother in law. I have never met Parker though. Dang it. :(

I've been snubbed by Peyton and Eli Mannings' mother, Olivia Manning, while walking at the park. Everbody greets each other there (small friendly town) when they meet on the walking trail but she has always answered my "Good Morning" with a 'what kind of insect are you?' look. :D I have only seen her there during the fair season (Neshoba County Fair) as she no longer lives in my town. I have never met Peyton or Eli though, or Archie, as far as I know.

I used to work with a first cousin of Marty Stuart. I probably know more of his relatives, as I live in his hometown, but they haven't identified themselves to me as such. I don't think I have ever met Marty Stuart himself but I did see him perform at the fair one year.

I was ignored by Senator Trent Lott at the Jackson airport one time when he spotted my ex-father in law and came over and talked to him. My ex-father in law didn't even introduce me, which was par for the course. I think I embarrassed him. :D

The truth is, I probably wouldn't recognize most celebrities if I met them in person. I'm not very good at identifying where I know someone from. Living in a small town, nearly everyone looks familiar to me.

Oh yeah, U.S. Representative Ike Skelton was my pack leader when I was a cub scout in Lexington, Missouri. We rarely ever saw him even though, if I remember correctly, he was just a state senator at the time. His wife volunteered him for pack leader in his absence.

Here's an odd one I forgot: The father of an old high school GF sat on an airplane next to Ernest Hemingway. On two seperate occasions.

I've met a few but I'll only mentioned the fine and talented screen actress that goes by the name of Mimi Miyagi.

Patrick Warburton (David Puddy from the Seinfeld show) used to come to parties at my house in Laguna Beach. He's a really nice guy and just as funny in person as he is on TV.

I had the pleasure of spending many weekends with the late, great, and quite notorious, Vampire Gerbil. I never did get his signature, though. He gave me one of his knives the first time I visited him. Not a knife he made, mind you, but one that he owned. I will treasure it always.

LOL......My parents met him at his restaurant. He actually came by their table and was, by all accounts, a very nice guy. It's not like the guy sits up in his throne room and waits for peons to come upstairs and show fealty....lol. So chances are, the reason he didn't come down was that you were acting like a Richard:p
