Having a celebrity that would be missed along for the ride would probably increase your chances of survival, but we still do not know what kind of survival scenario it is. Long term? Short term? Climate? Injuries?
If I had to limit myself to tools to be used for the purpose of going into the woods and not coming out for the rest of my life, two items would not be enough. Also the items that would be most useful on the first days to get over initial shock of being thrown out into the wastes would not be the same as the items that would be most useful long term.
On the first day you might be in real need of fire and shelter so you would choose an ax and a fire steel, or maybe you would need warm clothing until you can kill some furry animal, but your everyday needs would change drastically once you have a semipermanent camp set up. A boat and a net might now do much more for your long term survivability chances, but both of those could conceivably be improvised with enough time.
What about blacksmith gear for fashioning new equipment? Or a proper wood stove and chimney for your log cabin? That'd be something that would be very hard to improvise out in the woods. How about a gun or bow for hunting? What about a modern water filter? Antibiotics? What about a bicycle? Traps? A push cart? A wagon? A plow? Nails? Screws? Pots and pans? Utensils? Hygiene items? Glasses?
Look at the stuff you see around Heimo Korth's cabin in this documentary. If I went hermit I'd really want at least that much stuff and I would not be living a nomadic lifestyle.
Rusty, the beacon did become bacon at some point in this thread.
