A fellow Buck addict mentioned he no longer used a display for his knives after showing them to friend of a friend who's only questions were "What these worth? and How many you got?"  He no longer displays his knife collection. :( Mine are starting to pile up on a small table here next to the computer. Do you display, or do you have them locked up tight somewhere and are careful who you let know about them? Just wondering the general temperature on this subject within the group. I think I need to bump the Homeowners insurance atleast. I have noticed that people have a tendency to pick up a knife off my pile and handle the knife which I 'm not sure I want happening,:( so maybe a locked display case is in order.

Hey HOE,,, (i bet you cringe when people say that..:) )

Its just a kind of personal preference how you display, or not, your knives. I tend to pull out a few at a time to show friends. But mostly they live in the big toy box.

Story: A friend of my dads, made it big in his own business. Nice big new house and one closet that was so full of rifles packed in there together that it was hard to look at them. Minimum of a couple hundred.

Friend loved showing them to everyone and after a while a told b who told c who told d who finally told z....

Friend came home one day to an empty closet.

Your call,,,, one just never knows...

i dont display ..
have every thing locked up i my buck box!
if they want it is it 50+ pounds to carry off ...
right Darryl ?

i am bulding my self cases to take to shows
though they will have locks, 2 each
and i most likely will then display in a hall...

but for transport i will still use a veration of the buck box
so the knives can be carryed in a open blade mode
so as that they dont have to be getting swivle markes

i have buck hunting dogs that will protect the buck herd now!!!garrr...

I have one 110 that I have on display in my home office and I rotate them every now and then. The rest are kept in drawers. The folders in one drawer, the boxes in another and the fixed blades in yet another in a separate area of the house. Only a few very close friends know about them. My wife showed them to her best friend and her comment was that they all looked alike (historic 110's).

...Hoe...It's not Dave's 50 pounds of Bucks that would make it hard to make off with the box... ...It's the 250 pounds of chains he has wrapped around that box...  :p

Hi Harry,

I have some nice display cases mounted to my wall. These were for die-cast cars.....but, they fit the 5X and 3X stand very well. I don't show anyone my collection.....only family.

Here is a few shots.

I have my latest acquisitions displayed in the wife's curio cabinet. Better than 90% of my collection is tucked away in a safe place. I do leave a few EDC's laying around by the keyboard. :)

JB,
Your display is absolutely top drawer!   I have to show the wife these so she will see how great my collection could look! :D She says she's a little worried about me with all these knives popping up all over the place. Now what could she be worried about? JB Check your email.

Currently mine are locked away and only a few of my family knows about them.

The plan is to build a lockable display cabinet one day:rolleyes:

I do not have a collection. I have two Buck knives. For me, knives are meant to be used. If I don't use them they are given to someone who will.

I display as many as will fit on two shelves of the bookcase in our living room and I keep the rest in special drawers. I rotate them constantly. (My knives get "played with" a lot) The only people who ever see my knives are my wife or myself, we very rarely have company. I don't keep my knives locked up, even though I do have a large gun safe. It's too hard to get at them if they're in the safe. I don't worry too much about my place getting robbed, though-we live in a gated building and my wife works at home- and she has a gun.

Yes I display all both of them.

Well, you were there once too.

That gave me a good chuckle! :D

I do get calls from time to time from guys wanting knife values for knives that were stolen from a display in their home. I would recommed that if you do display them, insure them and inventory them.
When I talk to these folks, they ask questions like, " I think it had a black handle, or maybe brown, and maybe it folded but I am not sure, so how much do you think it was worth?"
An inventory would really help should the worst case scenario happen.
Personally, mine are locked up until Blade Show time.

My knives cannot be insured through my homeowners so I had to buy seperate insurance for them. They need to be insured in safe keeping in your home, in your car/plane in transit and at the shows you attend. Do not assume the knives are covered by homeowners insurance unless you have it in writing from your agent. Given that knives are considered weapons by the general public, I would not leave them anywhere where they could be stolen by anyone and in particular underage kids who might do something foolish. In which case you might find yourself in trouble for not taking reasonable precautions in keeping the knives out of the kids hands.

RM, some good points not thought of by myself. I assumed my homeowners would just automagically cover my knives but now that I think about it we had to have a rider added for my wife's jewelry, kinda like a separate policy.:p Guess I better call the agent and ask how much to make out the check.

Good point, in Victoria here in Aus my 110 collection is considered a weapons collection  and according to local government needs to be locked away. My wife and I are considering moving to Tasmania so I spoke to local government over there to see what their storage requirements are and they said to put them in a display case cause it'll look good and they do not consider them to be weapons :D .
I guess it helps to know your local laws regarding storage.

Jolly,
I always thought the folks down there showed good sense. ;) Not sure where you're thinking of moving to, but I really enjoyed Hobart many moons ago. :)

Most of the folks over here do show good sense, just not the politicians:rolleyes: .

Hobart is in Tasmania where we're thinking of moving, they are the smart state when it comes to knife laws;) Victoria where I live at the moment is the exact opposite  .

300's can be displayed in a relative small area. But there value not in as much in the actual knife as the hundreds, ney the thousands of hours I have searched, peeked, rifled in boxes at garage sales and gun shows, and gone half blind looking at a screen late at night. These are times that also have a great value which is only represented in a 'pile' of knives the size two shoe boxes. I have no one of blood that cares a twit about knives and will (20 years) someday sell'em off. I have the ones I obtained in the early stages of the 'quest' displayed in an upright Buck case here by the computer. Lately, I put the more recent artifacts in Plano tackle boxes in the metal gun case. Thinking like a double naught spy I envisioned making a stick-on colored micro-dot small enough to fit inside the blade well out of sight of the less observant thief. At least I could tell everyone here to watch for them if they got took.

PS Don't store Derlin scale knives on the pebble grain latex shelf liner sold for kitchen shelves. It will bleed latex blood into the scale.....

Hi
IMHO I would display your knives if you can do so in a safe manner & not likely to attract negative or unwanted attention.
I have 25 knives displayed in a locked glass cabinet or high up on a display shelf away little prying eyes & hands.
The location in my office makes it impossible to see from outside or by casual visitors.
I am one of the small minority in the UK who hold a Section1 firearm certificate.
Self defence using the above is not on the agenda.
The UK law therefore dictates those things should be locked away & not visible.

However, if you have some beautiful / interesting knives that can be safely displayed for your own enjoyment, then why not ?
I can't appreciate beautiful things if they spend 99% of their time in a box in a safe..
Seeing my knives on display makes me very happy & appreciate the time & investment in a life long interest.:)

Cheers
Intrepid
