Your collection?

Lately as I use a pocketclip more and more the search has been on the for perfect EDC, it started with a Gerber EZ out, then 440C mini grip, full size D2/S30V grip, small S30V grip, now it's a mini-grip in D2, my current favorite. QUOTE]

I think that's the direction my collection is headed: "the perfect EDC,..." I'm not one to carry more than two or more knives to EDC, so it always comes down the which one knife fits the days activities. However, to have a collection like T. Erdelyi to choose from, I'd never leave the house in the morning. What a collection!

T. Erdelyi: WOW!

It never intended to be a collection, it just happened that way. I bought one I liked, then another, etc.

I seem to be on a Spydie bent at the moment, I have just received my 13th I think. No idea what my next knife purchase will be...

[EDIT] Why does my text look like this!?!?!?

I never intended to collect knives either. It all began as a quest for the perfect EDC... The result has been a gradual accumulation of knives that I thought, at one time or another, just might be '"the one".

In addition to EDC candidates, I eventually began to acquire knives for other reasons. Many of them were simply intended to cover a range of size requirements. A few were for specific purposes, such as more formal dress.

With very few exceptions, mostly gifts, my "collection" consists of knives that I use. Not all of them are used often, but they are used. I've given away or sold a lot of knives as it became clear they just weren't going to end up in my pocket or on my belt.

The closest thing I can find to a common theme, looking over my collection, is that I don't much care for the tendency of modern tacticals to come in black. Just about everything I own has some color or pattern to it.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that I agree with the folks who say "buy what you like". If it makes you happy to own what you own you must be doing it right. :)

My collection is eccentric. there is no common theme. I see something I like and I buy it. split more or less evenly between fixed blades and folders. It all started with a kitchen paring knife that my mother gave me to whittle with. It was cool, it had a wooden handle and the knife went into a wooden sheath so it looked like a chunk of wood. To a seven year old it became my most prized possession. That was 33 years and over a 100 knives ago but it still brings a smile. :)

daverave999: you have BOLD starting tag ("[ b ]", except that it's without spaces between brackets and "b") near the top of your message. Edit your post to remove one of those two tags (or remove both starting and the one closing BOLD tag because they seem to be irrelevant anyway).

Whoa! I have about a dozen knives and I thought that was a tad too much. I always get a slightly guilty feeling every time I click "submit order" on a knife website. Do I need my next knife? No. Will I keep buying? Yes, I am weak.

I have narrowed my purchases down to a specific genre of knives. I work around a lot of packaging material (cardboard, shrink wrap, plastic strap, packing tape) so I currently look for friendly looking folders with small utilitarian blades. I used to be into bigger folders and fixed blades but the only time they really got used was during camping trips. My smaller knives see action on a daily basis.

If you're into users, buy what fits your lifestyle. If you're strictly a collector, buy whatever catches your eye. (or whatever you can afford)
