$$$ your cutoff point?

I have owned some handmade knives that I traded for that ranged in value from $125.00 to $700.00. Mike Franklin Hawgs, Lloyd Hale Hunter, Sava Hunters but now my max on a knife is $100.00. I am only buying factory knives now.

I've sort of gone the other way, I would really prefer to get customs, but finances do not really permit it right now.

Not that I have anything against the Spydercos, Benchmades and Kershaws of the world, they're excellent knives, but I have examples of them and so do lots of other people. That's the problem though, I'm not so interested in having one of what everyone else has, I want something that is uniquely mine.

Unfortunately my budget does not always match my requirements! :(

No real spending limit just keep putting away any extra cash floating around till i save up for what i want

$200ish would be my top rice although I have never paid that much. I collect knives sort of. I only buy knives I will use or can use and when I do not see a clear performance advantage that merits the extra price I will not pay it. I will pay more for a knife made in the USA though.

These days, it's around $50. I can afford more, and have done so in the past. But these days, I'm finding prices above that mark are buying more frivolity than functionality. I'm trying hard to find something that I want to spend more on. They just don't seem to be making themselves known.

Tops three years ago $100

Tops two years ago $150-$200

Tops one year ago $500-$550

Tops now $1000

Seems every year the amount will double!

^ that's pretty much how it's going for me. although at this point in the game i have several knives that i like well enough that i could stop altogether. now i like to try different makers, different steels, locks, etc.

I don't want to pay any more than $130 for a knife, with $150 being the absolute cutoff.

It has gone up over the past year or so. It depends on the knife. For a folder the most is about $240. and for a fixed is about $600.

gajinoz,
I really liked the customs I owned, but I was more of a caretaker of knives than collector as most of my knives are traded for new knives or guns. I am on my second go around as I collected in the 80's into the early 90's and got rid of all my knives now I am back up to about 150 knives. Am I crazy?

i have yet to go over 100 bucks on one knife... been a couple of years and ive held it at under a hundred, here's hopin' i can sustain it:D
my most expensive was a S&M wildcat driller $80 something i believe...

After buying a fair range of different things and spending $20 - $200 I've decided that the only ones I'm really interested in are those which are under 50 and (generally) over 500.

Put another way, humble working knives and collector art knives. Guess which one is out of my pocket depth.
