I posted a topic with regard to what is your "starting rotation" in an everyday carry knife/knives. The answer are so varied and very interesting.

Seems all knife knuts rotate their choice of EDC carry, and most carry many carry more than one...hmmm...what a great idea!

Anyway, it now begs the question, WHAT'S YOUR PROFESSION and WHAT ARE YOU HOBBIES? Why do you carry what you carry? And what do you use your knives for?

I am a small business owner in the manufacturing industry. For work, I use my knives primarily to open boxes, letters, cut rope, etc.

I am an avid outdoorsman (backpacking, hunting, fishing, SCUBA)--all great hobbies with 1) endless uses for knives and 2) for furnishing reasons to buy/collect more knives.

I am a collector of guns (surprise) and militaria, and knives seem a natural extension of my love and respect for functional tools and gear.

I am a HAM operator (KG6AHU), and therefore by definition a "gearhead". In addition to my knives, I am seldom far from a multi-tool.

The list goes on...but you get the idea.

I am a property manager, handyman, and tinkerer.I usually have a Case® or Schrade® folder in my pocket and a Gerber® or Craftsman® multi-tool on my belt.At home I always have my Gerber AR 3.00 and Schrade Cave Bear in a pocket or on my belt.I collect all sorts of stuff and fool around programming PDAs.

I work in the medical field. A Respiratory "terrorist" and Hyperbaric technologist working in a Hyperbaric (re-compression) chamber. On the weekends I deliver pizza's. That's my "daughters in college" job. ;)

My hobbies primarily involve shooting, mostly handguns with a little local competition, minor gunsmithing etc... Guns and Knives just go together :D
I also practice martial arts, American Kenpo (see avatar), and try to squeeze in watching some Fla Gator Sports!!

Needless to say there are knives involved in all aspects of the above!

I am a computer/network systems engineer by profession - lots of oppertunity for tools and sharp things.

My hobbies are mountain biking, mountaineering and being a military reservist - more chances to have sharp things.

Regards,

Ed

PS I also collect knives. :P

I have a gun shop, and my wife and I along with my parents have an Insurance Agency that I work back and forth all day long. After that I am usually taking care of the animals, and other work around the place. I am a gun and knife collector, hunter, fisherman, and avid four wheeler. We camp, and ride horses quite a bit. When I want to get away, I head down with the flat bottom, and ride the river all day with the dogs.

I really like the Police model, when working at the shop or the Agency, because it zips right through letters, and taped boxes. The Police is also comfortable to carry.

The Spyderco Wegner fits the bill for my EDC during hunting season, working, or just about any other task I may have. I hope to always have a Wegner in my pocket or close at hand in the future. I like it so much, that I have a NIB spare.

I'm a second year criminology student at CSU Fresno. I live in Fresno, Kalifornia  I think that's reason enough to carry a knife or three.

Did I mention that I like knives :D

I work at Friendly's Resturant and my main job is fountain, (ice cream). I also cook, dish wash, host, wait tables, do invintory, and was a boss for a few hours. I use my knife there for opening boxes, bags, cutting food, and other odd jobs. My old work knife was a Spyderco Delica, but my new large Sebenza comes on monday so I will use my old EDC, a Calpyso Jr. as my job knife.

My hobbies include Mountain Biking, Painball, Airsoft, Skeet and Trap, soon to be Marine Reservist, Inline Skating and my collection of knives. I will always carry my Sebenza for my hobbies but will back it up with the new Letherman Juice in orange. I cant wait for that baby to come out.:D

Im a student. Im a security guard part time at night. I carry a spyderco civilian when at work, it addition to the sundry of other junk on my super hero belt.
When Im not working i sometimes carry it, otherwise, just my cricket.

RattlerXX:

Quick question. My sister is an avid equestrian, and I was thinking of gifting her a nice knife this year for Xmas. Is there an
"equestrian"-specialized knife I can get her. I seem to recall reading an article in one of the rags about a gentlemen who specialized in knives for horsemen/ranchers that's used to clean horse hooves.

TIA

I'm a Christian minister and computer engineer (pays the bills). I don't whip out my knife very often at work, partially because just about everybody carries either a knife or a multi-tool. When I do it is to open something or perform surgery on a piece of equipment (like cutting holes in the case for a test lead).

My main hobby is shooting and reloading (I collect guns but only ones I can shoot). When I'm out shooting I carry a bigger knife (currently the BM 740SBT) and a multi-tool. It is amazing how may times I've lent out my multi-tool for simple gun repairs at the range. My knives don't get used much in the reloading room except to open packages :).

p.s.: I take a laid-back approach to spreading the word, so don't expect any unsolicited sermons here or should we ever meet in person.

I'm a phone technician and I normally carry a Case yellow handled stockman... but my Klein splicing knife (short stout fixed sheepsfoot blade) is really the most useful for everyday tasks. It's always right there on my belt in its sheath with the snips, ready to go. I can whip it out and get the job done in the time it would take me to dig the stockman out of my pocket.

I use it for cabling of course, but it's handy for a million other little tasks - from slicing open packs of parts to flipping the plastic covers off of newly installed jacks. Whenever I lose one I feel naked without it until I get another.

guncollector, how about a standard issue hoofpick, the knife of your choice, and a custom sheath made by you or someone you know to hold both.:)
i'm a truck driver and work about 70 hrs a week, so that may qualify as my hobby too. i have a rotation of 6-8 buck knives with 3-4 inch blades, plus what i have in my pockets.

Oh man, where to begin? It is good to see I'm not the only one carrying so many different knives at once. I own a sporting goods store. The real kind. NO Nikes or "team" wear. Guns, knives, archery, fishing.....I think about knives most of the time. My employees do most of the out front work while I make knives in the shop in the back. Surprizingly enough, I don't carry one of my own. I usually carry a BM 705, a CRKT Neck Peck, and a Webster Wood Snappy Sidekick all of which get used a lot. Also a Leatherman Super Tool and a Micra. These get used a lot also. I carry a Case Masonic trapper which never gets used but it belongs in my pocket. I have hundreds of knives and carry different ones sometimes but usually come back to the above mentioned bunch. Brian

I'm an electronics technician. I repair and calibrate industrial electronic controls and instruments, as well as provide on-site systems troubleshooting. My hobbies... I don't seem to have time for them much lately, but when I can I like to do outdoorsy things, hunting, hiking, fishing ect. I have 4 sons, 2 to 16 years old, so I include them whenever I can (I include my wife, too, but she's kinda the "indoorsy" type). I assistant coach my third son's little league team, and will probally help out with his cub scout den. I also like nature watching, astronomy, and science in general. I tinker with woodworking, and someday, I would like to make knives! :)

ok, get ready for this one...

I work... at BurgerKing! *you hear a gasp escape!*

I have my maintanance shift, friday/saturday nights, and whatever they give me during the week.

I'm cutting boxes for about an hr each night, and thats about 40-60 boxes. Gave up on an Xacto after my Cricket beat it on the speed trial. 10:2 boxes, I won. Single swipe vs about 3-4/flap.

My hobbies are lots of outdoors... biking, climbing, walking aimlessly about, camping...

I'm a Quality Assurance Auditor for a major retailer. I do various audits and bean counting stuff, but to elaborate would bore you into a stupor.

I am a hobbyist knifemaker and work in D-2, 440c, M-2(very thin planer blades) and file steel(mostly old Nicholson Black Diamond files when I can get them). Why old files? Anyone can go out to Kmart or Home Depot and buy new files. I use old files because they are dirt cheap and the hunt is part of the fun.;)
Recently, I've discovered a source for exotic wood walking stick blanks, made my first one and enjoyed the procedure very much and will probably extend my hobby into making walking sticks too.
I also enjoy Camellia, Rose, Herbal and Azalea gardening when my back will allow.:)

And last but most certainly not least is my rampant accumulating of knives.
My admiration of sharpened splinters of steel is one of my greatest loves.
Higher end production folders, handmade and production fixed blades, choppers and tactical. From neckers to machetes, I love'em all!:D

My EDC's vary from day to day and situation to situation.
At work I rotate between Spyderco Cricket or a Pegasus and my newest babies a Kershaw Scallion or Chive.
Outside of work it's usually a Spyderco Massad Ayoob collab model in LH pocket and in the RH pocket it's a Chinook or a Military or Starmate or Kershaw Boa or a Sifu or a D-2 Carnivour or a BM 710HSS, MT LCC, and on and on ad nauseum...

I, along with Tom Mayo, are Rocket Scientists:)
I carry a Stellite 6K Model 4 and I think Tom carries a Talonite TNT..
I am an avid shooter of a .45 auto and I think Tom thinks he is, also:)
I make knives to relieve the boredom of being a Rocket Scientist, and,I imagine Tom does too.
Tom's turn....

I am a Quality Tech/Metalurgist,department trainer and technical writer for a powdered metal company. My hobbies are knives, guns, harleys, tattoos and comic books. My EDC's of late in no order Strider AR, Emerson CQC6, Mayo XL TNT or sebenza. Rotate through various others from time to time.

Ah yes, the .45 Auto. There is nothing quite like it.

I work for a hospital in the Clinical Engineering Department, where I manage (perform) the service and maintenance on a wide variety of Medical Electronic equipment. One great thing about this job is that I wear a lab coat that will handily conceal any collection of knives I wish to carry. Usually I just have one or two with me at a time. The great thing is that I can whip out a knife at work anytime I want to cut something, and because people are used to seeing me with tools; think "There's Jeff using a tool", instead of seeing a threatening weapon. Or so it seems to me.

I open boxes too, strip wire, cut up vegetables for my sandwich at lunch ("food grade" knife only), and about a million other things during a given day. My usual EDC's lately; Spyderco stainless Police model (food grade) and Spyderco Native for the other stuff.

My hobbies include shooting & reloading, hunting, knife collecting.

Jeff/1911.
