I'm sure most of you will say the 710, I know I like mine, but what other AXIS folders are favored here? I once had a 943 and I miss it.

Mine is.......................................................

you guessed it............................................

the 710. it is an all around sweet knife.

close behind, the 806D2. I like the sleek, streamlined 710 better.

least favorite-
mini-griptilian. I have small hands and with the thumb stud and 50/50 blade in 440c iirc. I came precariously close to removing the pad of my thumb on multiple occasions. I liked the drop point blade, but the knife was one of those that just didn't do it for me.

I have 4 Axis lock knives and I rank them in this order:

1) Rukus SBK
2) 710 SBK
3) AFCK 806D2
4) Griptilian SBKOD

I was fortunate enough to be given a 551 D2 Grip yesterday, and I now see and feel what all of the fuss is about in regards to the Axis Lock! Talk about a silky smooth action. My first Benchmade, definitely not my last!!!

I'd have to go with the 710, then the Ares. I just like the size and balance of the 710. The Ares is just a bit to short, and the 806 is to big for what I'd want for my EDC.

550 Griptilian and it's little brother the 555 Mini-Grip.

I have no experience with the full-size, but I have the 555 Mini Griptilian (thumb hole -- NO thumb stud for me!) and I love that knife dearly.

I come in with a vote for the 520!

Compared to the 550 and 806 i like the mid size.

With it´s sculptured handle it plays in one league with the 550 but it´s hard to tell, if a slim handle is bitter over a sculptured or not. In fact i do prefer the thicker one but i like the feeling of the 806.

Weight is not an issue.

The first knife after long i did carry one year every day without rotation.

  • 710, natch ;)
  • 735 Ares, green & black G-10
  • 921 Switchback, my favorite sheeple-proof folder
  • 941, the mid-size knife that thinks it's a really big one
  • NRA Gaucho, the 941's more stylish cousin

732 Ares, black handle, stone washed blade, black thumbstuds. :) Looks nice. Originaly black blade, but I had it removed. One of my favorites just because of the way it rides in the pocket. Got some nice weight, but still feels slim in the pocket.
