Your favorite Benchmade steel?

I have BM knives in D2, M2, 440C, 154CM. My favorites are a folder (don't remember which model) and a Nimravus in M2.

I never heard, that BM does heat treatment at home. They have suppliers doing that for them, following a strct receipt, that is normally based on common heat treatment recommendations.

In other words: No nonsense misty moonshine heat treatment.

I was really pleased with one 145 M2 blade. Nothing against the single 550 440C.

M2. I just hope I never lose or break my 710HS. :( Their D2 is very good too. My son has a couple of S30V Benchmades, and he seems satisfied.

Interesting thread. I am considering a 710 but am unsure of which steel to get.
I also love 440C and have been wanting to get a red Box just to try out Benchmades version.

My only Benchmade is a 710 in D2.
I've only had it two weeks but am impressed so far, took a long time to reshape it's already sharp edge and has needed no touchup with steady use.
I own A.G. Russel's in 154cm and ATS34 both are great and can see little if any differance between them. Also I have a Seikicut in laminated VG10 which
I believe takes a better edge than the other two "stainless" steels.
Bottom line, good steel is good steel. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

I love my M2 large Ritter and have the S30V version too. Both are sharp as anything I've ever used. Just got an Alias I in S30V and very impressed with the blade so far. Great knife!

Most of my others are in 154cm/ATS-34, and work fine, I think they're easier to sharpen and touchups go faster too.

No problem with chipping on any of these that I caused or can see.

It is M2 and it was only BM making knives out of it. However many moons ago they gave up being on the top and decide to be generic manufacturer making generic knife out of generic steel.

Many moons ago they were innovative giving us axis-lock and M2 steel, top design (710, Ares...) now nothing excited coming out of them, nothing innovative. I think it is one of this manufacturer which just keep what they can keep without too much effort and follow the flow... Same as Buck... Same as Camillus was... Good old company, making good old knives, and does not making any news - nothing interesting for me...

Thanks, Vassili.
