I'm new to the sport and have a few of the ubiquitous books on the process, but I'd be interested to know what books you come back to again and again. History, building, design, construction - all subjects are fair game!

Francesco Pachi's book "The Great Master" about James Schmidt is a STUNNER.

Dr David Darom's books all seem to be opened frequently around here, they are all inspirational.

The original " How to Make Knives" by Loveless and Barney is about worn out too (not the Making Knives with Bob Loveless 2nd edition)

Corey "synthesist" Gimbel

Mine would have to be 'Knives and Knifemakers' by Sid Latham back in the 1970s. It's what got me into knifemaking and is a must have if you want to see where the roots of the handmade knife industry started in this country.

I have a complete set except for one year of the "year Knife books" starting at 1981. I sure pulled a lot of design ideas out of these. Frank

Im new to actually making- but inspirational for Fixed would be The David Boye's "Knifemaking"...For the motivation of what I aspire to- Hirousalas on swords... and for the holy grail of this hobby- the Shadley and Davis "how to make multi-blade folding knives"...

Me too. As well as the yearly collectors guides and the old tools collectors guides. Nothing like looking back to help you look forward.

In no particular order:

Step by Step Knifemaking by David Boye
Knife Talk 1 and 2 by Ed Fowler
Living on the Edge by Al Williams
101 Knife Designs by Murray Carter
The Tactical Folding Knife by Bob Terzuola
the Year Knife books are also pretty indispensable
