Your favorite detent on a knife?

Personal preferences I suppose, but I find my para 2 to be lacking in the detent department, closing it one handed often causes the blade to bounce back open half way, from the closed position. The opening is buttery smooth, but I would settle for a little bit more retention.

I don't think that is the detent. If you are holding the lock open while letting the blade fall closed, the detent never touches the blade. That sounds more like technique than anything.

My favorite detent? An AXIS lock is about perfect for me.

Benchmade's axis lockers and Spyderco in general have excellent detents. If these 2 manufactureres can make knives with good detents, why can't others too?

My ZT0550 and 0200 can both be shaken open with almost no effort. I actually thought the 0200 was a lemon untill I found out, that they were all like that.

I've also got a Böker Oberland Arms, which I recently sent back to Böker because of the weak detent. Haven't received it back yet. I sure hope they can fix it.

It could be technique, I generally just hold the lock open until the lock disengages and the blade starts to fall.

When you hold the lock open, you have to time just right when you let go of the lock so that the detent will catch the blade and keep it from bouncing back. If the lock is held open, the detent can't engage the blade. Do you have a problem with the blade staying in the handle when the knife is closed?

The compression lock is a great lock and strong, but I like the AXIS above everything else.

When it comes to closed retention you can't beat lockbacks and slip-joints.

Eventually, I hope to persuade myself into carrying a liner/framelock, but for now all I will carry is lockbacks or slip-joints.
