I just got my first Emerson, a CQC-14 "Snubby". I was going to get a new Spyderco Military but wanted to try something new. Emerson was in the same case and I'd never had one before. They're not as good-looking as a Spyderco but they certainly are built like a vault, and without being bulky! The G10 and titanium liners do the trick well.

I like the 14 because it's like Emerson's version of a Spyderco Dodo, full size handle and small blade. But, I'm thinking I still want a bigger blade. So for you Emerson aficionados, what's your favorite? I like the Commander and pretty much all the CQC's. But which one do I get next???

Really like my Persian, but my CQC-7B was carried towards the last bit of my time in the Army. Prior to that I carried a BM CQC-7. Something about the CQC-7B design just appeals to me. I used that knife to cut open medical supplies & tape, cargo-netting, packing straps, whittle, and open envelopes.

I have other knives that I can get sharper, made of newer steel, but I just have a history with the CQC-7B that inspires confidence in use.

Found that review, not too promising. I get what he's talking about with the chisel grind. I've experienced problems with cheaper chisel grinds, but this one seems to be fine. I guess they must have improved quality control since I have none of the liner or blade rub issues he's talking about.

Anyway, just in case I've forgotten something, who besides Emerson makes good tactical knives? Ideally something with a G10 handle and lightweight like the Emersons and Spydercos.

The CQC-8 is my personal fave, it's my EDC folder of choice, although I really like the Commander & my Mach I as well.

EDC in town, the Combat Karambit. I avoided it for years, but now have discovered what a versetile and wicked weapon this thing is!!!

Outdoors, the CQC-12!

These are strictly self defense knives. Every day "cutting chores" are done with a multi-tool blade, not an SD knife. The Emersons stay always sharp and ready to go....

If I needed a pure utility knive, it might be the CQC-10.

Emerson's HD-7 WITH Tom Krein's zero grind on it. This Emerson frame lock came out way to late. Recon-- I agree, My HD-7 stays untouched until it needs to get down to business.

Don't see the parallel between the dodo and the 14 but without a doubt the 14 is my favorite. Closely followed by the 11 or a 7 of some sorts. Have others but the 14 is the best for me. keepem sharp

I do not have any Emerson's, but whenever I read a thread about them the model's 12 and 13 come up on a consistent basis. I think both are V ground.

CQC-11.

A great knife except for the liner lock, IMHO. (Thinking of an STR conversion to framelock )

The CQC-8 is my favorite blade design but currently I favor the CQC-12 mainly because of the framelock. If I were going to buy only one Emerson for the long haul it would be the CQC-12.

If they ever make a CQC-8 with a framelock then I would choose that one. Of course you can always buy a CQC-8 and have a reputable knife pimper do a framelock conversion for you.

On an Emerson a "Conventional V grind" is a chisel grind but a "double" V grind is the conventional V grind. Confusing.
