Your favorite firesteel?

I have the RAT kit (use for stubborn tinder-molten balls of fire. . . harder to aim sparks) and LMF-precision guided sparks on "easy" tinder-cotton balls or old bird nest material.
If it came down to one-RAT-hotter plus storage holds 3 pjcb.

I really like the Ultimate Survival brand Strike Force.

Me too! I like that the LMF fits in a loop on my sheaths easily and is great for day hikes and all...but until somebody produces a larger version of the nano striker the Strike Force is going to be my "survival" firesteel of choice. I don't usually have any issues with the LMF, it's an army model used for both of the following videos. I really like how the LMF type work so well with chert as a striker also.

I like how the Going Gear can be used as the initial tinder to ignite damp tinders when things are wet and I live in a rain forest. I use the LMF when dry, and with fatwood even right after the rains. I use a 3/8 G.G. Badger with other tinders right after a rain.

and this is the one I keep in my pocket, it's a nanoSTRIKER made by EXOTAC and mischmetal exactly like the G.G.

The LMF and mischmetal have different characteristics and serve different purposes for me. I like them both for different reasons but they both work.

Mine's a toss up between the RAT Firesteel or the Goinggear.com Misch Metal w/ striker. They are both made of the same material and put out the same amount of balls of fire. The RAT has a big plus though, you can store materials in the top canister part for lighting and a small compass. Both are GRADE A strikers but take a little getting used to at first if you've never used them.

I have more than a few From firesteel.com and they work very well. I mostly use a LMF army. But the strikers I got a few years ago from LMF and Firesteel were exactly the same. I think the fero rods are all the same manufacturer. Handles etc or lack of are just different.
