Ok had this idea for this topic since cutting out a wart from my foot with my p/e Merlin,Then The mighty goat went and did his post,so I ask whats your knife for saving that co-pay?

Carbonfiber VG10 laminated Beretta Avenger this blade with its single bevel chisel grind is one of the sharpest knives I own.

For minor surgeries (splinters and whatnot), I like the ATS-34 clip blade on my "99 S&M doc.

like the saying that you shouldn't put anything bigger than your elbow in your ear, i don't believe in using BIG implements to do surgery
one slip, one lack of control, and you hurt yourself

i prefer using small scissors and tweezers for the occasional ingrown toenail

actually I receive free care from the VA (50% disabilty), but for in home surgery a sak.

Spydie PE VG-10 Delica...Nice and pointy, and sharp as a razor.

I use my Spyderco Ronin for all at home self surgery (no one else in the family has opted for treatment).

Of course, never without steriling it in the dishwasher on pot cycle first.

I´ve always used my stockman to remove callouses and cuticles, that spey blade sure is a fine flesh cutter (after all, designed for that).

Now, does anybody use a doctor´s knife ???.

I have to say, the irony does not escape me.

PS: I do know what the S&M really stands for, honest :)

My Spyderco Calypso Junior Liteweight is great as a scalpel and splinter picker. Recently a friend broke the cardinal rule of rapelling and put his back hand forward. He got massive blisters from rope burns as his hand got jammed into the ring and he slid about 10 feet. I had recently cleaned my Calypso with alcohol and I lent it to him to lance his blisters.

I'd vote for almost any SAK. With a choice of large and small blades, scissors, tweezers, a punch awl--you have a handy-dandy surgery kit. The models with the saws could be used for amputations.

For removing small splinters and the like the MOD Lady hawk is tops.
I imagine that any small knife with a really good edge that has either an inward curved blade, or wharncliff, or just has a fine point would work nicely.
BTW I do not encourage Self-Surgery. At all.

for splinters and such a sak works well and lets not forget the trusty sog power-plier for speedy tooth removal :D

The only "home surguries" I've performed have been with a needle and/or the small blade of an SAK (well sharpened). In hindsight something pointier would have been better.

I snagged my dad's cheek with a fishook when I was a kid (thank god it wasn't his eye). Those were the days before multitools and we didn't have any wire cutters in the tackle box. After a failed attempt to cut the hook with fingernail clippers, he made me cut the skin over the hook with his stockman. The small sheepsfoot blade worked well for the task. Since then I've been more careful when casting and always keep a wire cutter in the tackle box.
