I would like to hear everyone's favorite that yields THEIR personal best for a good all around performer

Stock width doesn't matter as the bevel isn't going to the spine. For my personal use I like 11 degree bevel per side(22 degree inclusive). I'm only gonna be carving soft wood though. It will fly through that stuff at that angle in my experience. I think a lot of custom scandi makers are in the 10-13 degree range with 1/8in stock IIRC.

I am beginning to wonder if a 15 or even 20 (30D or 40D inclusive) would be a good one . I am quickly beginning to gravitate toward a Saber grind with a secondary/cutting edge might be my cup of tea  bear in mind that I am learning here....NOT an authority by any stretch:thumbup:

Once you go that high it's not really a scandi by any traditional means. Just a saber with a zero edge. Scandi edge geometry lends itself very well to certain tasks, others not so much. As much as I hate gimmicky buzzwords, it shines at "bushcrafting." Carving wood. If you're wanting a more general purpose knife, use another grind. I like the idea of having a good scandi ground knife and a hatchet/Axe.

I use about 15 degree or so inclusive on 1084 in1/8" stock. My personal knife I sharpen zero grind. Most users preffer secondary micro bevel on a grind this steep. For carving zero is best. On larger blades, like Leuku I always put a secondary bevel. It would not withstand any harder use without chipping.

If you have no means to measure angle on 1/8" stock this bevel would be just shy of 1/2" tall. Any taller than that would be very fragile. I temper my blades to 59-60.

Hope this helps.

I do most of my scandi grinds at 25º inclusive. I occasionally use 32º for knives that I want to be more durable.
