www.himalayan-imports.com A great place to get top of the line khukuri. A great site to brouse. Lots of info and pics. Customer service is top of the line. Every question I had has been answered quickly.

Yozuri82,

Take a look at the Good, Bad, and Ugly for comments on Dirt Cheap Knives. Some members, including myself, have had trouble communicating with them and getting their orders. I recently canceled a Marbles order I had there. The knife was unavailable, and I wanted to substitute other knives for the order, but DCK did not answer my emails on the subject.

Then I sent an email and asked them to just cancel the order. I finally got a reply, and the owner said there had been problems with the weather in Texas that delayed his answer to emails.

There has indeed been flooding in Texas, but you will find that another member had trouble with them going back well before the flooding.

Finally, I had placed another order for three popular knives with DCK
two weeks ago. I still haven't recieved the knives, and I won't be suprised if I end up having to cancel that order, also.

I've had a similar problem with Discount Knives. Maybe the moral is, if you want good and reliable service, avoid the dealers with the lowest prices. Those low prices are meaningless if you can't get your order.

Thanks for posting that W.T. Beck; however, i had just purchased a cuda maxx from them right before i read your reply. I couldn't resist it anymore (119$ + 4.50 shipping). I sure hope they do not try to screw me over.

Yozuri82,

Good luck with your Cuda order. I think we are both going to need it.

I placed an order for three knives which I had assumed would not be hard to find. They are the Falkniven WM-1, Camillus Arclite, and Spyderco Fred Perrin fixed blade. It has been two weeks now and the order has not arrived. Had I placed the order with Knifecenter or 1SKS, I expect I would have recieved the knives within a week.

Remember what Ben Franklin(?) said, " a knife in the hand is worth two on backorder".

Yozuri82,
W.T. Beck,

I might be the guy W.T.Beck referrred to as having had troubles befor the flooding with DCK - yup - I have to defend them a bit in that there were some family issues I have full understanding taking preference over any business (knive or otherwise) - also my "problem" might have arosen from my ordering of discountinued (although listed on the site) knives - anyway - now they seem to be back to speed and I hopefully will get my knives soon - btw - also ordered a CUDA Maxx there in addition - I was told not in stock right now but should be back in soon.

@Yozuri - as I posted in the other thread - I never got anything charged to my CC so far - so no threat for being screwed over IMO - the tradeoff seems to be that best pricing does require low stock and therefor a bit wait depending on the product.

My previous problem arose from ordering a knife that was not being manufacturered yet, although it was advertised by DCK. I do think it is the responsibility of a retailer to make sure a product they advertise is actually available. There is nothing wrong with taking orders in advance of availability, provided the customer is informed that this is the case.

However, ordering the wrong knife was not my only problem. I did not get an answer when asking to change the order to a knife or knives that could be obtained.

We'll just have to see if things improve with DCK. Like I said, I have an order outstanding with them for two weeks now. Back ordering is OK if it doesn't take too long. However, if that is the reason for lower prices, the customer should be informed of it up front. An indefinite wait with no explaination and no replies to email just isn't acceptable to me. I want to know what kind of deal I am getting before rather than after the fact. If I know buying a knife from company "A" is going to mean slower delivery than buying from company "B", then I can take that into consideration, and decide if if faster delivery is what I need, or do I mind waiting longer if it saves me money.

Couldn't have said it better myself Beck. That site should state what knives are on backorder or that their shipping methods are rather lengthy. I will wait about a week and a half then email them about my knife if it hasn't come. Ground shipping from texas to South Carolina should only take a week at the most i think (i hope). If it takes awhile for me to recieve my knife, I will stop ordering from them.

I'll have to give a plug to Grand Prairie Knives www.gpknives.com . Mike and Earl are very nice guys. They have good prices and excellent service. It's the only REAL knife shop within driving distance for me, it's always nice to be able to handle a blade before you buy. :)

Yozuri82,

It seems that UPS is a bit slower than the USPS priority mail nowadays. Of course, since I have not recieved my order from DCK, I don't know which they use !

BTW, on Sunday I took a detour on the Cherokee Senic Highway on my way through South Carolina, traveling from North Carolina to Georgia. I was kind of disappointed, and didn't find the route all that senic. Most of the time I was driving along with tall trees on both sides of the road, so it wasn't possible to see any mountain views.

On the other hand, I think the low country of South Carolina - especially Charleston - is close to heaven on earth. The state flag is a beautiful one, too.

Beck, Yea i would not suggest driving around SC for a scenic route. You will see a lot of pine trees and fields-thats about it.

Coastal South Carolina is very senic, in my opinion. Also, I have traveled extensive around the US, and found no city more beautiful than Charleston.

Don,

You are right about the low prices at Blade Matrix. However, I noticed that some very popular brands were missing from their offerings. I didn't see Spyderco or Benchmade, for example.

I haven't had any trouble with Discount Knives as some have mentioned, but I did see Botach Tactical mentioned and I would not buy a buck for a nickel from them. If you are looking for Camillus knives, the best source I have found is CR Specialties:

http://www.crknives.com/

Cheryl took some extra effort to locate me a discontinued left-handed Cuda and even ended up finding a special one with a plain (non-combo) edge. It isn't even listed in the literature. I was grateful. - Lee

W.T.
Spyderco and Benchmade have a rather exclusive distributor network. The distributors are obliged not to discount the product. That is why Blade Matrix probably doesn't sell anything they can't get cheap. It' all about $$
