I stumbled on to my old pocket knife that my dad gave me when I was a wee ladd. it still brings those memories back of how tough an proud I felt.
just out of curiosity I looked up the blade and it said " cheap knife offered at k-mart in the 80's ($12)" .......oh well :( still means a lot to me! far cry from the TGLB I carry now.
what was your first?

My dad picked me up a Victorinox Swiss Army knife while on a trip for work. It was when MacGyver was a hit. Knife is long gone now. Neat you could hold on to yours though. Cool thread dude!

I had swiss army knives (mostly cheap knock-offs) and an opinel as a kid. My first more serious knife was a fully serrated Endura. Thought it was huge when I first got it. Not sure what happened to it in the end. Some russian doorman handed it back to me with the tip snapped off after I'd walked into a club in Kazakhstan with it in my jacket, but I had it for a while after that.

One of those victorinox money clip swiss army knives. Wish instill had it.

It was a vietnam era Camillus kabar knife. But I was quite young. Carried it around with my soldier garb playing soldier when I was 7.

1950 - My fourth birthday. Dad gave me a small fixed blade pot metal "Made in Japan" knife. In those post-war days made in Japan was usually code for "junk". Had plastic pinned imitation stag and a compass in the handle. I still have it and the compass still works, although the sheath disintegrated long ago. My mother swore that he turned me loose unsupervised with it at age four, so it is a miracle it has survived.

Case Sodbuster.
I miss that good 'ole knife.
I wish Jerry would make a folder. :D

I've got the first 2 knives that influenced my obsession to this day. I'll have to take pictures one day soon. I still recall finding one in the Bonne Carre Spillway. While I still lived in Norco. So I was at the most..4

That's a cool story..:)

Remembering how I felt having my pops give me my first real pocket knife an showing me how to widdle makes me realize how important that "right of passage" is to young people.. how better a way than a first knife??!! When my son Axl is at the age..his first will be a Busse without question..

My first knife was a cheapo buck 110ish slipjoint. I was about 8 years old and bought it at a local swap meet for like 5 bucks. That knife taught a valuable lesson about non-locking folders and knives in general. I was showing it off to a friend and decided to stab a wooden fence. The blade snapped closed HARD on my index finger and cut me very deep. I ended up losing the knife shortly after in a bush because the same friend and I were throwing it at the neighbors house trying to get it to stick into their wall. I soon learned to be far more respectful and responsible with a blade and started buying many knives from BudK. My addiction has really been growing since I got a Spyderco Delica 4 a few years back.

First ever was a Swiss Army,,little one with the scissors and the toothpick.
Second was one of those Rambo survival knives with the fish hooks and line, pocket saw, all inside the handle,,,and a compass on the butt end. At the time that was THE COOLEST!!!!!

That's funny, I wanted the Rambo knife so bad when I was like 12.. before I knew what a tang was, or.... lack there of :)
