Your first knife....

My first was an Old Timer (Minuteman ?). It lasted a while before it was stolen by my arch-nemesis, as was many-a-knife to date. I was around 7 or 8 when I got it.

eli griggs,

Great story!. I, and I am certain many of us have also done similarly silly things that match closely to those events that you describe here during the years of our youthful bliss.. :D

I try and teach my kids and there friends at every available opportunity about such dangerous encounters to hopefully have them learn from my mishaps so that they can avoid having to learn it first hand.

Thanks for sharing that one.. Oh and by the way Welcome to the forum!.:)

SunnyD thanks for all of that information, the only thing that is on the tang is CASE XX and below it is U.S.A.

Great!. Then your era estimate in your original post was right on target. Case XX {over} U.S.A. is 1965-1969..

Thanks again for sharing such a fine slipjoint with us.

Barny.

I won't go into the long version, but when I was a young wanna be outdoorsman growing up on the farm, a neighbor gave me one like that for Christmas, explaining that it did not have the USA on the tang and that made it a bit more desirable. Other than the aforementioned Boy Scout knife, that was the first quality knife I had. I carried it with pride until it was stolen when I was around 18 or so.

I was telling the long version to a fellow forumite and friend this past year, bemoaning its loss. Next thing I know he sends me one that was quite like the stolen one. That makes the one I have now double special. It brings a special point in my youth back, and carries its own special meaning because of the good fellow who sent it to me just because. I'm gonna keep a better eye on this one.

Randy W; nice threat you started dude, should bring a lot of memories to everyone on this forum, nice and painful ones!

My first knife is a Victorinox Budget Camper bought when I got 12. Used it a lot at boy scouts, at holydays or around the house. Replaced it for a Wenger Ranger (with the same functions) when I was a lil older but never really liked that knife, so I sold it recently.

Now I use a Vic OTH or Leatherman new Wave when I need the SAK functions…but occasionally I still use and carry that first knife :)dreaming:)

The first knife I bought for myself, which I consider to be the "beginning" of my knife collecting, is a Buck 119 Special with the black composition handle. Well, it was whatever they were calling the 119 back in 1989, but it looks the same.

Glad you are all enjoying the thread..I have another as soon as this one has ran its course..Keep posting..its fun to read all the stories!!

Pietje010...I was over in your neck of the woods a few years back..could sure use a mess of those eel..man they were good eating!! Cant remember the name of the town..it was on a very large lake and was one of the most beautiful sites in Europe!! Small fishing village that looked like a Norman Rockwell painting!..I gotta get back over there someday.

My first knife was a Cub Scout knife my dad bought me back in 1963. Wow, I was so proud to own my very own knife! On the way home from one of my scout meetings, I was busted throwing it into the ground. It was confiscated by my mom and I don't remember seeng that particular knife again. A while passed and my dad bought me a Boy Scout knife. I had that one for several years before it was lost or traded.

My first knife was a Buck that was given to my by my step-dad. He gave it to me when I "graduated" from a Cub Scout to a Boy Scout! It is in my tackle box to this day.

My first knife was the exact same one you have above, but it is in olive green. I still have that knife beside me in my desk, I bought it on 11/15/1987.

The first one that I can remember was a cheap Buck 110 knockoff with red and white colored celluloid scales.

The one I remember buying for myself was a Bucklite about 12 years ago. It served me well until I started getting into other brands.

Mine was the Schrade Bear Paw. I also got a SAK Tinker from a cousin for my 11th birthday. The Bear Paw was given to me by my late father. I used to wear it on my belt sheath while riding my bike. Cops would often ask about it and I'd say that my dad gave it to me. Got a lot of smiles out of it!

My first knife, when I was about 10 or so, was a Case XX senator/pen blade knife, brown bone, carbon steel. When my dad broke the tip off of one of the blades, he gave me the knife. I used our hand cranked grinding wheel to turn the broken blade into a sheepsfoot and carried that knife for years. I ran across it a few years ago, and put it away in a safe place with some of my dad's other case knives. For the last few years I haven't been able to find that safe place where I put them.:(

My first one was a Cub Scout knife followed by a boy scout knife a couple years later. My next knife was one I carried for several years, An oldtimer stockman. Steven

Camillus blue cub scout knife
The classic!!!
I must have been about 9 or 10 yrs old
I bought it at this place called Hilson's in Concord, CA
They had this "official" BOy SCout merchandise little shop upstairs from where the regular clothes stuff was

I just sold it on Ebay
I didn't realize I was gonna start up a another "mid life" knife collection or I would have kept it
Hopefully the guy in NY who bought it will appreciate it
