Your First Love

And what Hickory n steel posted

I remember my first Buck 110 till my dad took the few I had and "lost them" till I had to get a scharde of the same blade type (The only surviving knife of my younger I kept out of his view!).
I would get a gerber gator blade or Buck 110 here and there as needed, or but "lost them" to some friend's kid, niece/nephew who showed they deserved one but parents weren't going to get them one. It was the 110 that usually went to them, a good first knife that probably will be their main knife for years to come, unless their dad "borrowed" it and "lost it"...but mostly to this day most still have them in some shape for form.

For me it was the Kershaw Blur. It was maybe 7 years ago. I paid around $50. It was the first decent knife I bought after owning dozens of cheap knives for fishing/camping. I remember thinking how awesome that knife was. I didn't even realize back then that the pocket clip could only be put on the wrong side (for me).

My first one (I have owned 5) was with me for years. I never even sharpened it. It was dull as hell when I finally gave it away and bought a Benchmade. The rest was history. Now I have a knife YouTube channel and I post on knife forums. Hahaha

I loved my first Vic Tinker when I was a kid. But the knife below is what really lit my fire, and started the drain on my wallet.

First real bonding (naked without it ) was with the original Spyderco Police . Carried nearly continuously for many years until stolen . :(

Benchmade mini Dejavoo
I had to look that up. That is a cool knife; I could carry that.

. . . hmmmmm this is a tough question. I was going to say my Buck 110 I bought back in like 1981 but I didn't get crazy for buying knives after that just a few over a long period of time.
I got the bug first I guess and then bought a "taster" (first one hand opener, first pocket clip, first '""tactical''' knife) which was the top knife in this photo, the Cold Steel Mini Tuff Lite.
the others in this photo followed in quick succession.

then
I got this monster. First off I could feel it in my hand before I ever got it in the mail; maybe because I had that Holdout III but I think it was more than that. It was an eye opener that a huge knife could be carried in the pocket comfortably.
I was going to say it was the first knife I didn't have to modify to make work right. That's not true I had to overhaul the triad lock to improve it.

but
. . . now this Ritter Griptilian . . . it was most definitely the first knife that just totally freeekin' worked right out to the box, great steel, properly hardened, perfect geometry that just cut stuff easily, perfectly sharpened, the lock worked without messing with it and adjusting the pivot. The handle was a good full shape; I didn't wish for more (other than that it was Ti but that might actually be a step backward).
It did make me want more knives this good. Not too many out there but it doesn't stop me from chasing that impossible dream.

Then . . .
. . . oh then I took this thing and cut away everything that didn't look like an EDC and bingo I fell through a portal of no return . . . this is IT for me. Generally speaking. Blade shape and thinness, handle shape and length . . . CTS-XHP ain't bad to !
IMG_3720.jpg

and finally there was one more bingo waiting in the wings : I found My Steel. Up until then M390 was just really, really, great and CTS-XHP was to die for but . . . then I discovered M4 . . . it was like coming home for the first time and discovering girls all rolled into one . . . well maybe not that good but close. :D

Now I just compare everything to these last two above. I wish I could stack 'em up and jump on them and make one knife.

Sorry I didn't answer the original question but I had to put all that down again anyway for what it is worth. Maybe some one will do just that; make that knife.

And then there is handle material. SCULPTED . . . grippy . . . light handle material
Another big leap . . . why isn't this on my Ti Lite and my Para 2 ? . . . well because I haven't some how put it on there.
Geeze this knife hobby is getting to be a lot of work.

Always been around knives. My first one was just a generic scout knife, and as I got older I got handed various Helle and Brusletto knives.

The first one I bought myself however, and what started this madness was a grey Buck Spitfire some years ago. Still got it in a drawer.

Italian made Fox Predator II.

I wanted to buy my first “expensive” knife a few years ago and was set on a USA made ZT or Spyderco. The army surplus store I visited only had super high end models ($250+) so I decided on the Fox.

The Fox is a good knife, but no longer one of my top/favourites. It did start an expensive hobby though.

I have several slipjoints that are over 50 years old. But none of them were my first knife. I am guessing the first was either an Imperial or hand me down Schrade slipjoint which I lost during a Summer camping trip as a kid.

The kid whips out his SAK at the beginning of the movie... and that's when my love affair with knives began.

A red handled SAK was in the pocket every day a few weeks later.

At 4 years old I was trying to take my grandad pocnetknife. He gave me a little knife with a seahorse on the hamdle.then it was shcrade knives. Them buck case and then kershaw. I now carry a griptillian and case large stockman. I know one thing,it never gets cheaper lol
