What was it? I know some of us before getting into knives would buy the crappy ones, or get them for gifts, like 10 dollar SAK's and other no name pakistan knives. But what was your first quality knife. Id have to say mine is my kershaw blackout i got in a trade from a friend.

CRKT M16 i got earlier this year, when i started work. although my stepdad bought me a nice Shrade Old Timer when i was about 11 (don't know if that counts as "quality". i think it does.

I've gone through a few low-end Victorinox knives, never really liked those very much, just not my kind of knife.

I was really pleased with my Leatherman PST, and although it's not exactly a high-end knife, it's an excellent multitool, albeit a bit heavy to carry in a pocket everywhere. My Micra has been amazing as well, I like the size most of all...the thing is tiiiiiny! Fits anywhere, although the blade isn't much.

I'm saving up for a Griptillian Mini now...

I've carried Victorinox SAKs since I was young, but my first just-plain-knife of any quality was a Kershaw Ricochet. A 440V blade and micarta scales were quite a revelation after years of junk knives.

I don't remember how long ago it was(either when I was in junior high or just starting high school), but it was a Benchmade Panther. I carried and loved that knife every dey for a long time before it was lost. It pretty much got me started at looking at the better production knives, and it was all downhill from there:D

Spyderco Calypso Junior: Plain Edge, Stainless Steel handles. Was impressed, especially after some of the poor efforts I used to use.

That's what got me hooked!

It is strange because I just found this weekend my first quality knife. It is a Spyderco SE Endura I was buying in 1993 (I was 16 years old and I was spending a part of my first paye in this knife). I didn't know how, but I was losing it.

This weekend, I was moving my sister home. My brother was here and when we need to cut sellotape I see him taking out of his pocket my old lovely Spyderco...

Moral : never let your belongings in a mess !

The first quality knife I bought for myself was a Buck 110 in 1980. I moved into the realm of "modern" designs in 1991 when I got an SE/FRN Endura.

A Gerber Brass Folder back in the early 80s. Then I got a Chris Reeve Umfaan which triggered a Sebenza additiction, but that's another story.

A Benchmade Leopard model #625S-CLR that I bought in '98. It was stolen out of my Jeep Cherokee, along with my stereo. I still have the box for it.

1991, Spyderco Endura
