I was talking knives with my coworker today and asked how his little case was doing that he carries every day. I thought I would snap a pic to show y'all :)

I put my 55 with it for size reference

He loves this knife and carries it almost every day. He has a slightly larger imitation case I have seen him carry a few times but usually only on days he brings a lunch he needs to cut up.

Anyone else got some buddies or coworkers that you talk knives with? Would love to see their edc's one day.

Most all of my co-workers carry modern folders. Only one appreciates the beauty of traditionals even though he admits to not owning any. He always wants to see what I'm carrying. The rest are all pushing heir luck with company policy with some of the stuff they carry. Plus they don't accomplish anything more than I can with a comfortable traditional. They just look at me as the old guy. :D

Interesting topic.

There used to be a guy at work that I talked knives with all the time but he's retired now. We talked about knives nearly every day. He would occasionally pick up a new knife and he had a small collection and an even smaller EDC rotation. He liked Schrades mostly but when I introduced him to Rough Riders he really took to those as well. He never wanted to spend much on a knife so those were just right for him.

Two other gentleman that still work there talk to me about knives once in a while. I don't have any photos to show but they each have one knife that they carry every day.

Ironically, we are not allowed to use our personal knives at the workplace but that's a whole 'nother story that I won't go into. We still carry them anyway though and use them on the sly.

Similar to my company. They allow small pocket knives, but modern style flippers, auto, auto-assist, and whatnot are against policy.

Most people I come across only carry moderns as well. I see an occasional Case from time to time but thats about it. My Father in law is a knife guy as well and I am slowly rekindling he desire to carry one :)

I have also gifted a few and once they go dull the guys necer carry them. I ask for them back to sharpen for them but if I dont bring it up they dont either. All my friends and family know I am a knut, I enjoy the stories along with the knives just as much.

Amazing, how when growing up every guy I knew started carrying in elementary school, and ALL men carried folders. Now, I rarely run into anyone who carries anymore. And, if they do it's usually a utility knife of some sort or a cheap novelty or tactical. Occasionally I'll run into a guy with an SAK. And occasionally someone will ask me to sharpen one, and its steel is so bad it just won't take an edge. "But I paid $20 for that knife and it's from an American company!", I'll hear them say. "My dad had one from that company and he had no problem with his!". I don't know how to tell them times, companies, production methods and the economy has changed since their dad got his. Maybe if the old companies had survived we'd see more people with knives they could trust and want to carry.

I used to work with a knife addict, but he switched jobs. Everyday we would talk about knives. Man, I miss that! He has a nice collection of Case knives, mostly stag. At work, he always carried a synthetic handled sodbuster. Other guys at work don't carry knives, but they always know who to come to when they need something cut. ;)

Everyone I work around considers a box cutter a knife. I've given a few tradtionals away but no addictions developed. I still enjoy trying though

The general manager of my store has a benchmade barrage clipped to his belt everyday. I will show him my latest acquisitions and he just doesn't get it, he only owns one knife. another guy at work how is older carries a case sodboster from the 80s I think.

Where I work it's just me and my boss. He has a bunch of knives ranging from Old Timers to moderns. He has one custom forged fixed blade that was a gift. But he isn't a knife nut and cannot understand my addiction. He looks at me like I have two heads when I go on about different knives. But at least he don't give me grief about it or whatever knife I have with me. He likes that I have a nice Arkansas stone in my toolbox, he gets his knives sharpened often as a result.

Most of my co-workers decorate their pocket with a modern folder, that I doubt they know how to open. One co-worker recently was shoulder surfing and ended up buying one of John Lloyd's knives from VCM3. I hear she is quite pleased.

Another co-worker has her father's Case slim-line trapper. She has me sharpen it every now and then but "not too sharp" (about ten strokes on the stone each side) because she "really isn't a knife person." She's transferring to a different port and I'm tempted to get her a Victorinox day packer/florist knife so she won't have to worry about losing her daddy's knife at work.

Maybe I should just get her a slim-line trapper of her own...

One of the directors at my company enjoys traditional pocket knives. His latest projects have been rejuvenating and rebuilding old knives he buys on eBay. He showed me one of his frankenknives and I have to say I was quite impressed. He did a really fine job on it.

Traditional knives in Germany / Austria / Middle Europe seem to be pretty uncommon these days. So they are some sort exotic appearance to most of every people I run across. BUT Vics are still in use by many people, not just those 58mm Classics but also Climbers, Tinkers etc etc. I count them to traditional knives in this case so far.

One of my coworkers is an electrician and he carries even an Otter Ankermesser for food prep during breaks at work. But he almost carries it some decades and it´s just a good knife for him. If it gets lost, he´ll just get another one.

The only traditional knives I've seen my colleagues with are SAKs or Leatherman multitools. I'm the only one who carries a knife in work (the humble case peanut in cv) but thy all come to pmew when they need something sharp. :)

I work as a building materials sales rep (closest co-worker is 150 miles west) but most seem to carry knives when I'm around them and a knife is needed (the guy to the west of me has an ALOX Cadet because I gave it to him!) My customers carry knives; I do see a lot of the modern type with the pocket clips on them. I was an Army Guardsman for over 32 years - all sorts of pocketknives and belt knives were used, most every Soldier carried one. I was a Boy Scout as a youth and have been an avid hunter for over 50 years; of course all my hunting buddies and their sons carry knives (skinning and pocket - one guy is a long time Gerber nut - he has LOTS of them), even our wives and daughters carry small penknives in their purses - guess I've spent my youth and adult life in a "Knife Rich Environment"! OH

I am a steamfitter or service fitter. That is I service mechanical and HVAC equipment. Most everybody carries some sort of knife but I've yet to meet a true knife nut. The other day a coworker pulled out a case g10 trapper. It was dull as can be so took it to sharpen for him. Another a cheap barlow and another had a small old timer which he lost. He replaced it with a new overseas model but I didn't have the heart to tell him it's not of the same quality.

None of my friends carry a knife. When I worked ,I gifted slip joints to two coworkers, they never got carried.

I get the felling at work that talking about knives is not the thing to do. I work in IT for a trucking company and while I see the drivers with a pocket clip I do not see that with other office workers. So not too long ago I asked our HR manager about carrying a pocket knife at work and it was his opinion that it would be OK and I could tell that he was defiantly talking about a tradition folder, and he also mention talking to our Safety person, which I decided not to do. I have found out early in life that if I do not make a lot of “noise” about something that I want to do then I can do as I want just so long as I am not hurting someone else with my actions or lack of. So I do carry a tradition folder at work, which was a Sod Buster Jr. and that will now be replaced with my newly purchased Northwoods Indian River Jack.
