Your house is burning....

I enjoy my knives a lot more knowing they're not in the back of someone else's truck. :)

But you're right in that knives should be enjoyed. I'd like to build a locking cabinet that could be quickly opened to reveal display shelves. No reason why security and accessibility can't co-exist.

An insurance check would be little comfort. It could take a lifetime to replace a collection...

Guess we're way OT now... :)

Anything is replacable except family and health. My reasoning is if I can replace something with money I don't worry about it.

Probably a little bitty (we're talking 1" - 1 1/4" folded) no name slippie with cracked celluloid scales and a near sharpened to death blade that my great grandmother "EDC'd" in a small pocket to cut sewing thread and what not.

Or my grandfathers hookbill folder he used working in a grocery when he was young,

Or my other grandfather's Craftsman stockman he EDC'd.

or.................Aw heck, I'd grab them all or go down with the ship. (I really intended to play by the rules......................really.)

My numbered Mnandi w/Giraffe Bone inlays (although I sneak out my Mnandi w/Mammoth Ivory inlays as well) :D ;)

Green Benchmade Osborne.
It's not mine, but I'm borrowing it while my Spyderco/Lum folder is being worked on. Anyway, I wouldn't be able to look my friend in the eye and tell him that I managed to grab my 710 or something while leaving his knife in there.

The 2 inch Frontier pearl celluloid pen knife that was the first knife my dad gave me. (I can't believe that I never lost it during my childhood of playing baseball, throwing the thing, and exploring the woods near my home.)

So, the wife and kids are safe, the dogs and cats have made it across the street, mom and dad are sitting on the fire truck, your kid sister is crying on the lawn but she'll live, your wedding album is...you get my drift.

However, your ENTIRE collection is in the still-burning house, and you have a chance, ONE chance, to save ONE and ONLY ONE knife. Everything else goes to beelzebub and his minions as they burn in flames, but you have a chance to save ONE KNIFE. Which ONE would it be? :D
First, I would ensure my spouse, my parents, my siblings, the dog, and the two cats are OK...

Just teasing!!

I'd have to "rescue" the Microtech SOCOM D/A Automatic first, since it would be the toughest to replace. I could always commission Jerry Busse to recreate a few of my others...maybe even go for an upgrade in the process!

Easy, the beat up 50+ year old Henckels pocket knife that my father carried everyday. The customs, CRK, WH, and other knives are replaceable.

It would be the SAK Huntsman that I saved up for when I was 12 years old. None of my others have an sentimental value - they're just tools.

It hasn't arrived yet, but my no. 1 keeper will be my custom fixed blade fighter made by Jürgen Schanz.
