Your ideal EDC blade size

about the same as SoCal but every now and then will carry my SG bad monkey which is 4" but carrys like it is less than 3.5

I like the 3.5~4.0" range but have a number of 2.9~3.5" knifes.
It goes with where I plan on being.

3", but happy with 1/4" either side. Where I am (the UK) it's supposed to be 3" max and non locking. But I've never been stopped and searched in my life. I just don't take them to night clubs, music festivals etc.

I usually carry a 3.5 folder and a small case mini trapper or buck 305. Depending what my task or where im at is the one is use.

Big orangutan mitts here so anything over 3.5" usually works in a normally configured folder.
I usually draw the line at 4", over that gets a bit pocket hoggy on most.

....I guess 3-3.25 may be my sweet spot if I had to pick up only one size
 That is the size that I have been comfortable with for years. Bigger... I might initially like them, but I seldom carry them. A lot smaller.... same thing. I seldom deviate from that size when choosing a knife. But I am starting to lean toward smaller folders. I'm just not ready to make that change as of yet other than I am trying out a few knives in the sub-3" blade size now with the potential of carrying them as an edc.

Glad to hear that, I was trying to decide between ordering a PM2 and the Native 5 yesterday. I ended up ordering the Native 5 G10, I liked the overall size and shape better. I wondered how well it would handle bigger jobs, it doesn't sound like I'll be under-knifed. I know my Delica is about that size and it hasn't let me down. I'll find out how it handles soon enough.
The Native 5 in G-10 is a very good knife. If you haven't purchased many higher end Spyderco's to this point, you will notice a big mechanical improvement over the Delica. The Delica is the size of knife I use as a model. I compare any potential purchase to the "Delica-Size" and make a judgement. The only folding knife I have purchased this year that exceeds 3.25" blade length is the Boker Urban Trapper at 3.5" I believe. It is so slim that the extra blade length works for me. But I am dissatisfied with the knife itself in terms of sharpening; It should be easy to sharpen, but mostly what I get are so-so edges with DMT diamond plates.

3-3.25 +or - .25 gives me the most control for my EDC
I will go up to around 3.5 and a little lower than 3 , but not much outside that in a folder

Folders: 3.5-3.75"...I will stray up to 0.25" on either end (usually with a little grumbling, unless it is my ZT0200kw).
Fixed 3-4", generally...though I make a few exceptions; such as an LT Wright Patriot on the small side, or Busse Urban Grudge on the large side.

For me I stick to no more than 4” with preference for 3.25”-3.75”.

I normally carry 2-3 knives:

A short Fixed Blade - 2” to 2.5”. A people friendly blade that is very easy to control and handles most tasks. If I had to pick one size/blade, it would be this. I live in a densely populated suburb and there is rarely a need for anything bigger. For me, the FF Runt and EDK fill this role nicely.

A small slip joint folder - 2.5” to 2.8”. A SAK Pioneer or Cadet. This is really for opening bottles and packages, and for lending. It’s amazing how often I get asked to borrow a knife and if I’m going to be helpful, it’s going to be a <$50 blade.

A Mid-sized Fixed Blade - 3.5” to 3.75” - For more serious work. These days, I typically only carry this if I’m taking a trip through a more remote area, or think I might have need for a bigger blade. Not really an EDC size for me, but more of a frequently used special purpose knife. If I lived in a rural area, this would be my favorite size.
