Your knife collecting strategy?

I don't know that I ever had a consistent strategy. Probably a combination of "whatever appealed to me at the time" and "want to try a wide variety of patterns and brands."

I would do things differently given the benefit of hindsight. I would have significantly fewer knives, certainly.
just about covers it for me.
and a little bit of all-of-the-above too.
i do like the idea of the history of a knife, old or the connection to the manufacturer.
wish i could afford better examples of some of my favorite older patterns like Schrade whittlers.

I consider knife collecting to be an entertainment expense. There may be significant residual value, but the main objective is to learn and have fun. Just buy what you like and worry about filing it under a defined collection later on. Your collection will form as a natural part of the process; it is much more interesting to discover what that might eventually be, than to try to force the issue by buying a bunch of stuff just because it shares a page in some catalog.

another excellent way to approach the "idea" of a collection/selection
knives gifted to me have true sentimental value. i don't know what words to use, i mean memories come back to me when I think of these knives.
could i possibly use all the knives i have, not hardly. they are kept mostly out of sight in drawers or rolls, kinda dumb when I think about it. my plan is to gradually give them to my grandsons so they can use, absue, break, lose, giveway or otherwise enjoy them.
one of my favorite knives at this time is a jigged plastic handled Kingmon jack with a broken tip. paid $2.00 for it. all it needed was a little cleaning and oil in the joint.

I have to resist the urge to buy too many that don't have any special meaning or use. I have some great knives that have been passed down to me that will always be part of my collection. I think my next thing might be to try to collect all of the Ford logo Case knives since that is my last name and it is fun to collect their memorabilia.

I seem to go through phases in my buying...right now I am in a whittler mood and my last three knives have been that pattern.

So here is my collection, I'm give up on the strategy and enjoying the journey
